Ok the squirrel thing is funny. I've always thought those little fluff balls have galactic domination in their hearts. This just confirms it. I keep the mid to late game interesting by seeing how many turns I can keep all the other empires at war with each other. I get a sadistic giggle going every time I manage to get one AI to attack the ally of a very powerful empire and then laugh at them when they beg me for help as the larger one t

Eh map wrap has always been something that I find pretty jarring. I prefer to know that if I'm in a corner two of those sides I don't have to worry about. In all cases if it is possible then I'm all for the option to turn it on or off. As for the 3D map ... not only NO! but heck NO!. hehe ... The 3D map in MOO3 gave me a headache after a long game. All those lines crossing. Not being able to

I don't mind the AI surrendering. However I do wish we could actually ask for their surrender rather then relying on the event to occur. Also it would be nice if there was the option to play *to the last bullet*. But then after a really long game that could probably get tedius. I know in my last Metaverse game on a gigantic map I was actually glad when the last non ally surrendered to end the game.

This occured twice in the same game. The first time it happened I invaded an enemy planet. I won the fight with something less then 50 soldiers left. When I dismissed the ground assault window the planet showed something like 4.19283132 T people. Needless to say my approval was instantly 1% and my influence covered the entire map. So I went back to a previous save that was just a couple of turns before I had evaded. This time when I too

You are playing with the latest version I'm assuming. Keep in mind that there are actually 3 different game modes: Sandbox, Metaverse, and Campaign. I don't think ship designs transfer between those three. If you click on a tech even if you can't research it yet you can see what it will unlock for you.

Yeah I managed to get a tech victory in a game that was pretty much my only option. I wasn't the largest empire in terms of influence and I didn't have the clout to get a diplomatic victory. I guess I could have done a conquest victory but at the time that would have probably taken longer then the tech victory did. Anyway by that point in the game it took me 60 turns to get the last tech researched. I just set MP and SP to zero and cranked RP to 10

Well if the AI building a bunch of them wasn't enough of a clue let me help you out. Economic Base - Boost trade revenue and all manufacturing on any planet whithin its sphere of influence. In general I try to build at least two or three of these around any star system where I can overlap the star base's sphere with several planets at once. Also multiple bases do stack their bonuses. If I get a really great group of stars together I can t

That's good Mascrinthus. Stardock seems very willing (to our benefit) to try to accomadate things so the more of us that ask for a particular thing the more they'll know it's worth doing

First off let me say that you folks did a fantastic job on this game. I've not enjoyed a game like this in a long while. Here is a list of things that I've noticed while playing. Some maybe bugs others maybe just my own confusion about how it should work or just design decisions you made for whatever reason. 1.) Slider bars. The culprits here are the three on the Economics page and the one in the Trade screen for giving/request

There are core designs for various ship types in the game. However to be honest with you they are very generic and don't usually help you out in a game situation. I don't think I've ever built any of the attack ships you unlock in research. I've always just designed my own taylored to whatever my current needs are in the game. You know you don't have to place a bunch of jewelry on a ship hull. You can just slap the weapons, defenses, mod

First off let me say that you all did a fantastic job on the game as is. Are there things that annoy me? Of course. But that is preference not anything you did *wrong*. As for this economic business I like the fact that you've made a change so that unused social goes into military though to be honest with you I've just always hit the *Focus* check icon and ignored the 9 SP that are wasted. That was until I manage to get a planet that cou

There has been some confusion as of late about what exactly the defense assist does. I know you need at least one defense on the ship to get any bonus. However what I'm hazy on is do you really get the bonus in the other two or only for the one you put on. So let's say I've got a ship that has 1 armor point on it and it's within the zone of a star base with the assist. Does it magically get 3 shield, 3 point, and 4 armor in battle or is it just the

Yeah it can get confusing to know what parts are for what and which hardpoint you are actually about to place that gigantic part. Put to be honest as I've used it more it's not so bad. The only thing I really want is the ability to pan the camera in the view. There are times where it is next to impossible to line up a hard point especially it if is at the edge of your design. Zooming out doesn't help because then the system starts to confuse severa

Interesting theory but I highly doubt they would have purposefully left things in the first release for this reason. Chances are they just ran out of time and had to meet that last deadline. I am glad though that they chose the method they use. I doubt many other companies would show that kind of courage. And from the posted sales results I'd say their gamble paid off.

There are augments in the game for ship speed so maybe the Terrans had those. I've gotten that Ranger ship a few times and while it does pack quite a bit of fire power it moves at a pathetic 2 parsecs / wk.

Hehe... yeah assuming your planets are safe is not a good thing against the intelligent AI setting. It's just that I can't help but wonder what weakness it's plotting to exploit in the next turn. Being forced to stay on your toes is refreshing. All too often these types of games boil down to *hey do this and you win 95% of the time*. This one just doesn't let you get complacent. And if you do it will smack you around and make you it's back room b----. Fun fun fun... I really hop

Make sure you remove both ship files. There is one call shipcfg and one call shipclass. Also the metaverse games store the ships in a different folder. In general you should only remove these files if you also delete any saves that may have used them. The game will bail on you if you load up a save game that then looks for the deleted files.

I do something similar but I don't bother with prototypes that don't have anything on them though it is a novel ideal and I may start. Basically it has to do with my naming convention. First I just pick a name say Viper. This is followed by what weapons, defenses, and engines a ship has. So say I have beam, armor and warp drive. The name I give it is Viper-BAW. This allows me scan the names and select the ship I need withouth having to click each one to get it's stats to appear. Now if te

Oh that sneaky AI. Gotta love it. There have been a couple of games where I've had to stop for a sec to see if there is a little green guy in my PC just because of the things it does. I had one game where the AI sent a couple of constructors along with it's fleet and promptly built a military star base with the ship assist extras to trounce one of my heavily fortified (or well I thought fortified until this) star clusters. I was so mad that I promptly added the tactic to my bag of

Oh I've just gotta throw my 2 cents in so here it goes... This stuff makes my head hurt and I'm really good at math. A game is about fun. Something adds to the fun or it doesn't. I don't want spreadsheets upon spreadsheets of numbers representing all my production I get enough of that in the real world. Here's a news flash for ya. The real world is a pretty complex place. This game does a very good job of modelling certain aspects of that world. Of course they take liberties wi
