Gotta love the David Weber/Steve White books like Crusade, Insurrection, Shiva Option, as mentioned by Tral. GC2 reminds me of those books. (As did Space Empires 4, a game that has a more direct lineage to those books, in that one of the authors was a contributor to a game called Starfire, reportedly one of the inspirations to SE4.) I never got into Honor Harrington, but I did love the digs against the lefty "Dolists" mentioned in the series (sci fi is a great venue to make socioplitical stat
I have been a gamer since before the birth of the PC. I used to play SPI war and strategy games back when they came in the mail with Strategy and Tactics magazine, e.g., circa 1976 (yeah I'm an "old guy"). I am really stunned by the effectiveness of the AI in my latest game, in which my custom, Arcean-like warrior race, (OK, well Klingons), have been slowly expanding via conquest in a gigantic galaxy against the Federation and others. The Thalan have been the bigges
I love it. Never knew about the cheat. I did what Kryo suggested before, but the cheat seems easier.
PLANETSIDE. The only MMOFPS ever created (maybe Huxley will also be this). When it first came out, I had a tear in my eye due to the utter epicness of the battles. Hundreds of soldiers in the air, on the ground, in vehicles, and assaulting via airdrop against defenders of bases scattered on multiple continents. I say "when it first came out", because although it still exists, its just a shadow of its former self.
I'm not into coding or modding, but I know some games have third-party apps that work within a game (like mmorpg's that have apps that allow you to optimally loadout an in-game character). I wonder if anyone would be interested in making an app that would automatically generate ship names based on the size and type of ship. The names of course would have to be manually input into the application beforehand. For example, You could desgnate that all your frigates will be named after Olympian go
I did both. I installed the mod to DA when I first got my Vista machine before TA came out, and couldn't get it to work. Then I installed it directly to TA too---in other words, the mod has been installed in different directories, yet the batch file doesn't copy the hull models to the right place for me. I tired to figure out where the files were being copied to, then manually transfer them, but I couldn't find the copied models. Everything else works fiine, however. Is there a work
I have not been able to achieve full functionality of Kryo's Mod since loading up Galciv2 DA and TA on my machine with Vista. Everything works, except for the "hulls as jewelry" feature. I have run the batch file as instructed, and nothing happens. I tried installing the mod in different directories, then running the batch file, and nothing happens. Advice?
I've spent alot of time making ships for DL, and DA. Can I import them into TA? How about if they were made using Kryo's mod?
I was one of those that did it before, but I like yours better! Do you have an Enterprise?
I agree that a high end capital ship ought to be worth something--not just one of fifty ships that you don't really care about losing because you can just produce another one in a few turn's time. I like the idea of higher cost per ship--if it costs alot, it will take a long time to build. But how about a different suggestion--that it requires a specialized shipyard to produce battleships and dreadnaughts-like a Hyperion Shipyard, and only that particular shipyard is specialize
Looking forward to using the Wii controller as a lightsaber in Force Unleashed. May not have the graphics of the XBOX 360 or PS3, but I think the gameplay mechanics will be fun on the Wii. Unfortunately, no PC version is forthcoming.
Thanks for the tip. I Took the plunge and did the registry fix and all is well.
Ok, I took the plunge and messed withthe registry, and fixed the problem. It now reads 1.80g. I haven't played yet to see if the pathfinding problem is fixed, but I assume it is. Thanks Kryo for your prompt attention, even if I was rude.
Kryo: I already reinstalled DA. I uninstalled it, and reinstalled it via a fresh download from SDC. Still reads as version 1.8e. Sorry for the surly tone, but I'm just frustrated. I Is this a problem inherent to Vista? Should I just get your tweak vista utility to fix problems like this?
Thanks you. I have...Vista.
Ok, I figured out that DA version 1.8e had the problem with fleets not being able to be assigned destinations much more than one turn's worth of movement points. I also realized that this was presumably fixed in version 1.8q. The problem is that my computer doesn't update to 1.8q via SDC--it still reads 1.8e. I also realize that there is a post regarding a regedit fix, involving changing a "version string" to 1.7. I don't know what a "version string" is, and I don't want to m
I figured out that despite the update from SDC, my computer still reads the game as version 1.8e instead of 1.8 q. Thus, the fixed pathfinding error still exists. I also reinstalled it, the same thing happened. Then I read on another post that I have to ALTER MY REGISTRY to fix it such that the computer will recognize the update. Bad. I will not mess with my registry--to me, thats like messing with the DNA of my body. I love you folks at Stardock, but this need s to be a fix
What the heck? I have to now mess with my registry to get the game updated correctly? What is a "version string"? I finally figured out that my pathfinding issues with regard to not having a fleet be assigned a destination has to do with the version continuing to read as 1.80e. Now to get it to the "q" version, you're saying that I have to alter the registry of my machine, something I've never done. I am infinitely uncomfortable in doing this registry fix. You guys really need to f
mrakomo: Yes this post seems to be the exact same bug...reported WAY BACK IN NOVEMBER. Why then, does the latest DA build not address this problem,(devs)? Did the latest version of DA fix this problem for the rest of you guys? I only see one other post about what seems to be a pretty severe bug.
Yeah I have the same problem (mentioned in a different post, but didnt see your post until now). I see the stuff on the regedit fix for improper update to version 1.8q via SDC. This update fixes the pathfinding, but I am unwilling to edit my registry, since I really do not know how. i posted otherwise on this, and hopefully there will be an update from SDC on this problem.
I might add that I tried to set a waypoint and make my ships go there also--no luck. And it does appear that the max distance I can right click on and have an autopilot response is just about the distance a fleet or ship can travel in one turn. This is a bug that makes gameplay unmanageable, because you just cant micromanage your ships and fleets like this each turn.
Maybe it is just fleets. But I have been playing DA for quite some time on my old XP rig and never had this problem, with fleets or individual ships.
Belanos, I did create a mod folder for DA and installed it there. I also installed it in the default mod folder in DL. Kryo, I did note that the batch file seemed to run, and in the KHSM DA folder there are two subfolders, Data and Gfx. Gfx itself has "thumbnails" and "models", and within the models folder appear xfiles that seem to be the result of the copymodels batchfile being run. Yet, even though these folders are present, the game doesn't seem to see the xfiles representing th
