Any SDC update for pathfinding problems other than regedit

Ok, I figured out that DA version 1.8e had the problem with fleets not being able to be assigned destinations much more than one turn's worth of movement points. I also realized that this was presumably fixed in version 1.8q. The problem is that my computer doesn't update to 1.8q via SDC--it still reads 1.8e.

I also realize that there is a post regarding a regedit fix, involving changing a "version string" to 1.7.

I don't know what a "version string" is, and I don't want to manually edit my registry, unless my computer is dying.

Is there any fix from the standpoint of SDC for this problem, without my having to enter my registry?

How about this?

http://files.filefront.com/Keyreg/;9530968;/fileinfo.html

You can open it with Notepad/Wordpad by dragging and dropping it or by right clicking and selecting open with/edit (whichever one you have there), to verify it's clean-which it is. Feel free to run it through however many virus scanners you feel is necessary.

It's basically plaintext. When you double click it, it will apply the registry change for you, so you don't have to worry about mucking things up. All it does is change the version number back to 1.7 so SDC will properly recognize your GC2:DA is outdated and update it.

It's also compatible with anything from Windows 98 onwards, with the possible exception of Vista.

You're welcome.

Thanks you. I have...Vista.

Short of editing the registry, you can just uninstall and reinstall DA.

Um I believe Carielf posted an interim fix on the forums here as a 1.8G patch.
