So we'd like to get an idea of what invisible threshold you think Spore crossed that made so many people upset.
Probably been answered already, but the game's so damn glitchy for some that getting it to work is necessitating reinstallation, and the fear of running through all of one's allowed installations just to get the game working has a lot of users frustrated.

Updating products is broken in phase two. It says update available for Space Rangers 2: Reboot, but hitting update doesn't do anything in the Impulse GUI, it still says update available, and although it does download the update (according to my net graph anyway), I have to wait for the download to finish (when network activity stops) and then hit update again for it to acknowledge that fact. I ended up killing the impulse process after it insisted on silently downloading the update a second t

Haha, two flaws in your assumptions: 1. The 8800GTS. If you want to run Crysis, I suggest at least two 8800GT's in SLI. If you want to run Crysis with everything ramped up to the max, get two 9800GX2's in SLI. :) 2. The 2GB of RAM in Vista. Go to x64 and get at least four gigs of RAM. You get a good 20% speed boost by running the x64 version of Crysis.

You know what's fun? Run MS Editbin on the game executable with the /largeaddressaware flag. It's a subtle modification but if you already use /3GB or have a 64-bit OS (latter preferred) it mitigates this. Particular to 64-bit, it practically doubles the amount of virtual memory the program can use (the full 4 gigs). A couple of caveats: this is really only useful if you're running a 64-bit OS (all you 32-bit lusers out there that think PAE fixes your problem, oh man, sucks to

How about this -- when your video card runs out of memory for textures, it goes to system memory. And I think (but haven't tested this) that the memory it grabs belongs to the game process. My understanding is that however much texture memory you're using on the video card is automatically duplicated within the game's process already (either the game does it itself, or it's handled by DirectX). So for people (like myself) with 512MB graphics cards, if th

Well hell if you don't have autoupdates enabled it might as well be cumbersome for you. I just start up SDC, wait (after clicking that stupid script error notification away) and if it doesn't prompt me for any updates, I close it. oh noes, I have to start a process to let it check for updates as opposed to what, starting firefox and looking on my own? Oh snap.

Priority... you mean CPU priority? Setting CPU priority to high won't really "fix" anything, it just means galciv2 will get higher priority to the CPU than other applications. Heck, I dare you to set it to realtime priority.

Arming colony ships? Maybe it's just paranoid. I arm my colony ships in the later stages of the game when I come across uncolonized worlds in the midst of a war, but I suppose that's understandable.

lol, bug free? You must be new to PC gaming, Crosswire. Either that or you're a glutton for disappointment because there's practically no such thing as a bug-free release. Heck, take some comfort from the fact that this game was technically "finished" a long time ago, and they've been improving it for free all this time. Yeah, I'm getting random crashes too, albeit it's not from out-of-memory errors. At least that's not what it's telling me.

I just got hit with an Out of Memory error upon an attempt to autosave, but the game didn't crash. It just aborted the save. Strangely enough, after that point I was able to do a manual quicksave which worked just fine. The game quit normally as well, so SmartException didn't catch anything. Here's the relevant portion of the last debug.err (it was a long game so the full thing is 529K): Debug Message: Deleting previous save game. Debug Message: About to auto save. De

Not certain if this is a bug or normal behavior but when ships autolaunch to an assigned rally point after being built, they just sit in place awaiting commands rather than automatically going to their assigned rally points. This persists over multiple turns until manual move commands are issued. Right now that's the only thing bugging me, everything else is working fine. 1.59[b].007, Vista x64, AMD X2 5600, 4GB ram, GF7950GT 512MB. 158.18 drivers.

By the way, here's my most recent debug.err. By the way, nVidia does not seem to be releasing any new drivers for the GeForce 7 series. Well they already have a beta driver for the 7 series... I downloaded just today, but haven't installed it yet. Goes from 93.71 to 94. something. So, there is still support for the 7 series. Check out Nvidia's website and let me know if I'm wrong about this, but it's d

If the first test build was supposed to address the ship and starbase model corruption, the second test build didn't. Tried that out and still got model corruption. I haven't tried going any further because it really ruins the experience if I can't design any ships from the start (I think I spend more time in the ship editor than I do playing the game, lol).

Let me make one thing quite perfectly clear. I am not my brother's keeper, and you are not mine. You owe me nothing, and I owe you nothing. I am an unemployed dirt-poor college student living with my mom and I have absolutely no problem with her kicking me out if she ever gets tired of my freeloading, just as I have no problem with the notion that your wealth is yours to spend it on whatever the hell you damn well please, and not something to be taken away by the state to be redistributed equall

Driver update verified. In fact I dumped XP x32 in favor of Vista x64 and just let it do its thing. Same video card, 158.18 drivers. Also since I went to Vista x64 I also bought a new hard drive (a 10KRPM WD Raptor 150GB) to replace my old 80GB drive and thus redownloaded and installed the game, up to the current beta. The problem still persists. Am searching for the debug.err file now, but I suppose I actually have to start a game for it to create one? I got the model corruption in the

Rather than try to describe it, I'll just let the screenshot speak for itself. Didn't have this happen in the previous beta, and nothing changed driver-wise since then either. nVidia GF7950GT 512MB w/ beta 97.73 drivers.

Yeah, preordered it, waste of money unless you have a dual-core processor, which I don't. Even if you have a dual-core processor the game lags. It's one of those that will fly on a quad-core or higher, but otherwise the sysreqs are just too goddamn high to be worth it. Upgrading to 2gb ram this week though in the off-chance it actually helps things. I doubt it though.

The subtitle pretty much says it all. Whenever enabling auto-attack, if the ships attempt to attack a freighter protected by galactic privateer, the game almost incessantly shows that "cannot attack" popup. This ended up forcing me to declare peace in my last game, cuz I was sick of clicking "Done" 30+ times with each turn.

"Alteran Remnants" - neutral, scientific focus, preference for large ships with missile weapons and shields. Smaller ships will lack shields. The ships themselves will be far heavier on defense than offense, to reflect a siege mentality.

The best you can do with an AGP based system is a Radeon X1950 The 3dmark2006 scores would say otherwise. You can get a GF7950GT 512MB for $250-280 US. At least I did, several months ago. EDIT: Wait a sec. AGP?! I wasn't aware people were still using that. Hm. Yeah the ATI or a nVidia 7800GS AGP would be about it

One thing that people tend not to bear in mind when it comes to sound quality - the motherboard's chipset. If your AMD is one of the older ones reliant on a VIA KT chipset, therein lies your problem. I went from awesome sound quality on an nVidia nForce board (an Abit NV7-133R specifically) to utter crap on a replacement VIA board (KT600A chipset) due to going from HyperTransport-backed onboard audio (nvidia's precursor to the nF2 SoundStorm chipset) to generic PCI-bussed RealTek sound
