I've had the game crash in similar circumstances now for quite a while - especially with the beta's... I've posted here about it before - I would have posted the smart exception readout - but I haven't installed it yet - (had to restore the comp after the logitech sotware I got with the webcam my girlfriend sent me completely screwed windows up)... I'll stick some of the debug file here - (is pretty long - was playing for a while) - but th

hmm - well in my last four games - my arch-enemies were the Torians, Terrans, Alterians and the Arcean's respectively - so I don't think I'm in much of a position to complain about this. I have not, however, altered any of the default races at all - I have only (ever) played with my custom race... I have to admit - it's taken me a while to really get into this game - but now I have, I think it's one of the better ones I've played... Shame
the tree's I've got for the weapons atm are: Laser, Laser Cannon, Quad Laser Cannon, Turbolaser, Turbolaser Battery, Heavy Turbolaser, Heavy Turbolaser Battery, Superlaser... Missiles, Concussion Missiles, Advanced Concussion Missiles, Cluster Missiles, Advanced Cluster Missiles, Proton Torpedoes, Advanced Proton Torpeedoes, Galaxy Gun and/or Sun Crusher. Though I was thinking of also adding the Triple Blaster and Space
As I've said before - I'd love to help out with a Star Wars total conversion - (especially with the tech-tree's). However - there are a couple of problems with it... One is that to do it right - you really NEED racial tech tree's - just basing them on their ethical alignment isn't enough - or you'd only be limited to three races... Since I've been sketching out a few things for the 'main' tech tree - (i.e. stuff which w
I don't bother defragging, ever... I just back it up, format and restore it - which works a lot better... You using a single partition on that 100GB? or serperate ones for games/windows etc.?
The reason I'm asking this is because I want to do a total conversion of the tech tree/improvements etc. - but was unsure that if I put everything into the mods drawer that it would completely replace the normal stuff (like I need it to) or not..?
No - I thought that too - (not too unsurprising given my dads collection of Heinlein novels, lol)
hmm - wish I could help - but the only thing I've done is a 'proper' list of star wars star names - (on www.thegalacticcore.com) - if thats of any help? The only problem with the star wars star names is that there's actually not enough of them to cover a gigantic galaxy on abundant stars... (So I did another version with lots of character names in asw
I have a couple of questions/suggestions for the Mod folder for Galciv 2... The main thing I would like to know is, if, say an xml file in the mod folder is a complete replacement - (as in pretty much nothing is identical) to another in the main game -is the one in the main game completely replaced - or does it try to use both? Also - what happens if there are conflicts between different mods/entries in the mods folder? TBH - my
Oh - and the ablility for a tech to have have more than one parent would be good too....
To me - the biggest thing of all would be (as they've already mentioned) - racial tech trees - the amount of possibilities that that alone would open up would be massive...
I;ve had a few autosave crashes on me for the past couple of days... Do yu want me to send the smart exception stuff - or do you know whats causing it already?
UPDATES: I went back and played the game again - (started a new game from scratch this time, rather than load in a pre-beta 4 one) - and it fixed the ship icon problem - but this time it crashed pretty early on - but there didn't seem to be any reason for it at all in the debug file - except for one line: Debug Message: No files found match
no - but it's the best one I've tested for the particular video card I have, with the games I play... (9800Pro) - and I'm pretty sure it's not the problem here...
First off - a really minor problem with the latest beta - the fleet icon seems to have problems - most of the time it shows a normal ship icon for a fleet - and occaisionally it would show a fleet icon for a normal ship - though it wouldn't stay that way for many turns... Secondly - I had it CTD on me a few minutes ago - I was nearing the end of a game I was playing with the old version, and it loaded fine - but something just happened in it
Tactical combat in a game like this, to me, seems similar in ideas to real-time combat in an MMORPG - it sounds like a good idea in theory - but then you begin to realise that player skill starts to count for a lot more than it should, and because of that, the levelling system (or tech-tree in this case) starts to not mean so much, which kinda destroys most of what makes the game what it is - (or is supposed to be)...
For me - the biggest things would be the ability to have all races as custom, and also each race with a custom tech tree... Then we might see some 'proper' total conversions
I wish I could remember how/when/where I first heard about gaciv 2 - but I can't. Still - I'd played the first one and after reading up on what was being offered in the 2nd one I snapped a copy up
Reminds me of the problem I had when trying to run the game at 1600x1200 or higher on my DAW with a 21" monitor and a 9600Pro. - it would only work in those modes in windowed mode - not full screen - (though if it was the same res as the desktop then it looked the same as fullscreen anyway).
I'd probably suggest something like a Steamrunner class ship to go with the Defiant class as a medium ship, instead of the NX ship to keep it within the same time-line and technology base. I'd probably suggest the Nebula Class to replace the Excelsior class too...? As for the Oberth class - the later equivalent of that was the Nova class... (Small?) Maybe a Runabout for the cargo ship? (Star Trek Fact Files anyone? <img src="http://images.stardock.com/
damn - $10?? :O Shame I don't have a credit card
I played Earth 2150 a bit - was too unbalanced though since the LC got their 'doomsday' weapon real quick. Haven't tried the expansions though - are they any better?
Thats pretty much what I was thinking of Morden - though some people have spoken of being able to seperate stuff by giving each race a different tech to start with and having the race specific stuff coming from that - (so the other race dosen't even know it exists). I feel that this would work better - since it should be prefectly possible to play the Rebellion/New Republic or Empire in as many different ways as possible - just like the original game
512GB!!! :O (Sry - I know it's a typo - but it's still funny ).
grr - it said it timed out - but posted anyway - nvm... (edit/delete dupe)
