okay so in GalCiv all the alien races origionaly got from at to b using a stargate network right? but then along come humans with hyperdrive and now you can get to places really fast that DONT have a stargate... Right? so wouldnt it make sense to have the ability to still build stargates as a way to link colonys together? Per say I sometimes (in gc 1) find myself with a bunch of coloines on two diffrent sides of the map (usually depending on who surrenders to me). as such I could really find a stargate usefull if it would reduce the amount of time required for these cross galaxy hikes. Maybe they could be a moduel for starbases (or take an entire planet tile up) and be linked in with other stargates.
basiclly it'd work that any ship in orbit of a planet would have a third option (right now there two - remain in orbit or leave orbit) that would be accseable through a button marked "Stargate" (im so damn clever arent I?) and then they'd get options to jump to any other planet with a stargate. the drawback would be simple it'd take 4 turns for the ships to re-emerge AND if the destination world is taken over by aliens then those ships would be destroyed.
by making it take four turns you elimiante the need to build them unless you have planets really far apart and they still remain usefull in the larger maps (you could even disable them in anything medium or below).
Uh and a breif bit about starports.... Can we dock ships with them this time that way I can station a fleet at a starport and not have the game tell me to move those ships since there "idle"?
okay thats all for now
