The Rise of the Outer Rim
I am using the Iconian Tech Tree in TA, because story. The Drath style is because... well it is just so darn cool!
The Outer Rim Alliance is a part of a much large world that I have created, but has been severely altered to fit into a Galciv 2 universe. I have never actually written an AAR, even though I have read a few. In real life I have to worry about grammar and spelling quite a bit, so forgive me for being a little comma heavy. For those of you with an interest in such things this is a custom race with a personal, albeit light, mod. The map is on immense with full civs. I haven't played in a while, so the difficulty is down a bit from my normal at Tough. We begin already at war with the Terran Alliance, and the rest are unknown. This mod makes use of Pant's Negative Abilities, and you will see we have a few negates, such as to homeplanet quality and others that a civilization of forgotten and rebelling space miners may not be so attuned to (and thus large abilities in what they do, like repair, logistics and military production). Hope you enjoy.
Chapter One:
The Terran Alliance emissary was furious. He had a right to be. The Outer Rim had just declared its independence. Was this new upstart mad? To go against the might of the Terran Alliance in this hostile galaxy? To turn our very backs against mother-Earth?
In all likelihood she was... In all likelihood she is. Standing alone before a sea of people, from all over the rim. On paper they are here to see the launching of the first three ships of the Outer Rim Navy, a miner the ORA Trinity, a role most of these souls have known for years, an exploration ship, the ORA Defiant, once ran by the new president herself when she was a part of the Terran Fleet, and then there was the New Horizons, carrying the most loyal subjects of this new regime.
But they were really here to see her.
The woman who would stand against the might of Terra, and more than likely the other races in the galaxy.
Her name was Elizabeth Davies. And she was doomed to lead her people through fire or to glory.
The Outer Rim Fleet. Note the mini map. This is an immense map and those are my neighbors. I believe my thoughts were... oh frack, not another one of THOSE games. C'est la vie.
The ORA New Horizons settles on Havenhold's moon of Scarlet Shadow, quickly setting up a base. A world is sighted in the Piers system just as the New Horizons' sister ship, the ORA Twin Spires is purchased by a sympathetic mining guild. The ORA Defiant is tasked to investigate. But Captain Andrew Ning reports that it is uninhabited.
The Rimmers are bumbed as only Rimmers can be, but their infamously bad luck seems to quickly change. Two new systems are located with a total of four new worlds available. New colony ships are already being built and bought at rapid paces, assuming the ORA treasury can last that is.
Yet, beneath the surface of Havenhold an artifact has been found. A precursor relic buried in the ocean. Archaeologists have only now begin to truly understand the scale of it. It is an entire city! The lost city of a precursor race of old. It would seem that these far flung outposts were once the center of a mighty civilization. Were they Dread Lord? Were they Arnor? Or were they something entirely different? That remains to be seen... more study is required of this.
Am I a bad person for really, really... REALLY wanting to kill the space squid? Yes? Okay, then... nuts. Let's say we meet half-way, huh?
Regardless, colonization and expansion before the war finally meets us is our top priority. The world of Cerebus quickly became a prime sight for industries and ship building we do not want the Terrans, or even the various mining guilds, to know about. Together with Azure Marble and its two moons we have created... rather ironically... a rim of worlds around Havenhold. However, it seems we are quickly running out of room in our little corner. We have many things to do here first before venturing into the further reaches of the galaxy, but Davies does not seem to mind pausing the construction of colony ships to explore the surrounding space. Several derelict ships and rare minerals have been found by the ORA Defiant alone, and a new and smaller scout ship is already under construction after the last colony ship left spacedock.
The Outer Rim was able to acquire a working set of universal translators. They were a bit damaged, but with some space duct-tape and some gum M. C. Givere was able to put it back together. His exploits in acquiring said gum also helped give him the idea of establishing places of barter over our worlds. We should consider following his example. With such a rapid pace of colonization, the economy of the ORA just entered debt. It is not too terrible of a situation, but rapid industrialization of Cerebus (Albeit possibly a mistake on my part) may prove to damage our economy in the short term. A few riches found by the Defiant is really what has helped us keep most of the treasury we have. Incidentally, they also were the ones to find said junk universal translator on a derelict ship. It appears to have been a smuggler who sought refuge in an asteroid field. Luckily for him it seems the authorities backed off. He did not... and became one with the dust and rocks.
The ORA Destiny was launched the same day Azure's first moon, Azure Prince was colonized. It heads to the galactic east in search of riches to save the Outer Rim as production and research are forced to crawl slower and slower. The billions upon billions of credits of net loss had been tamed to about breaking even, give or take a few BC.
Thus ends Chapter one. I hope you enjoyed it. It is shorter than some other times, but I try not to spend too much time at a time on 4x games. They really know how to suck away your time if you let them. This last image I had offered peace with the Terrans just to see what they would say. I loved it too much to let it go past. Also, I forgot I had changed the event music for the factions... so Jenna Casey comes on with this sorrowful Celtic song. It is called Lívstræðrir if you want to know. I got it off an AoE2 scenario, so I have no idea beyond that. Still, weird.
