I got the Ultimate version on the recent Steam sales. It's running perfectly fine so far, so that's good. But there's a small issue, relatively small, anyway, and it irks me personally just because I'm rather obsessive.
Objects (Ships, Planets, Asteroids, anything select-able in the in-game screen) do not lose the selection marker and/or any related overlays.
What this means is, if I left click a starbase, it's range is shown as an on-screen overlay. Clicking empty space does NOT remove the selection and overlay, but changes the middle information grid to the graphs.
As for ships, the last selected ship remains selected even if I select a planet. That exhibits the behavior of being able to right-click to direct the ship to move, when the information part of the HUD actually displays the planet information.
Planets also do not remove the selection marker from clicking in empty space, which leads to the odd situation of having both a ship or fleet and a planet selected at the same time, with the HUD displaying the nothing-selected graphs.
It's still possible to forcibly un-select every object by Ctrl+Dragging a selection box over empty space, but that's certainly a bit of a chore to do between every single action.
For my first game session this did not happen at all. This behavior started after the first time I loaded a saved game. And persists even through a full game reinstalation, although I kept the configuration folder, removing only the prefs.ini file.

EDIT: So, it would seem I just didn't notice it? Digging an old changelog shows that at 1.2 the game was made to not deselect ships if you click on a planet. Perhaps this means that clicking on empty space is also not deselecting them on purpose.
So, useless post is useless... Sorry about that.
