Don't go back?

It could be resetting when you go back to that screen, but will play correctly if you just go through and start your game.

One way to check. Make your selections and start a new game. Then save the game and check the debug.err info.

I only have GalCiv2 DL, and mine is in 'My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2'.

Each expansion of the game has it in its own folder.

You could do a search in your C: (assuming the default install location) for 'debug.err', then select the correct one for your current game.

It is a plain text file, and you can open it with Notepad or any text editor.

Actually the info you want is in the Prefs.ini file which is also an ascii file in the same directory as your debug.err file and your save game files.

The lines you're looking for look something like the following and are located towards the end of the file under the [GalaxySetup] section.

TechnologyRate=4
MegaEvents=1

In this case I enable Mega Events (0 would be disabled) and I use the fastest Technology Rate (0=slowest, 1=slow,, 2=normal, 3=fast, 4=fastest).

In a similar manner the Prefs.ini file lists all of your galaxy setup selections as well as your configured race, opponents and opponents difficulty levels. The Prefs.ini also contains all the game options that are setup under the options menu as well.

The Tech rate does not hold for me. EVERY TIME I start a new game I have to manually set the tech rate, no matter what the previous setting; but then the game does progress at that tech rate selected. I have checked the prefs file, and it does indeed have that setting that I selected. All the other settings hold over from previous, it's just the tech rate that does not. Could it be something about the fact that I moved my "My Documents" folder to a different drive???
