This has been bugging me for a while now since I'm in the middle of a Star Trek marathon.
In GalCiv we only have one engine type and that's it but in most if not all Sci Fi they use two in conjunction.
Usually it ends up like this:
You have Sub-light speed engine for normal travel (I.e.: Battles and Intra solar system travel and such).
And you have Super-Light speed engine for inter-stellar travel which is usually dependant on the sub-light engine.
Two exemple of this come to mind:
Mass Effect: They use the Mass Effect drive to lower the mass of the ship allowing sub-light engine to propel the ship to ffaster than light speed but it's still the sub-light engine who do the work.
Star Trek: They use Warp Drive to create a bubble around the ship to do something I can't really remember but then use sub-light engine to propel the ship inside that buble to allow FTL speed,
So I thought for Gal Civ 3 it would make sense to go back to Gal Civ 1 map representation of only Stars then when you get to a star to shift to simple map of the solar system and travel a sub-light speed. I always found it very odd that it could take over a month for a star ship to travel from one end of a solar system to another.
Of course this prensent new challenges but I think at least it would make more sense to have the old "Only Stars" system back
