Convert to X format

How do you convert a 3ds max model to X format compaitble with galactic civlizations.

I have the model in 3ds max 2009 and I tried to use the panda exporter but the game keeps crashing.

Boogiebak, Morgemil... care to answer that question for me TOO please, again.

Beside the usual but very old "tutorial" GC2ModExample.pdf file

...created by another modder who had to figure this all out by himself.

Where's AggieJohn when we need him the most.

Sadly, PandaX exporter is total junk... even with Blender.

Need something?

As far as panda exporter I never had any huge problems with it but then again I had 3d max 8.  I made a tutorial a while back I think its over at the I mod site.  I would gladly give it to yeah but that was a computer ago and many files and programs were lost, unfortuantly.

Quick question,

How do I flip a model horizontally in 3dsmax or in milkshake? Or flip textures?

Each time I import a model it gets flipped backwards, and the textures are backwards.

UV mapping flip option in the Y (or v) axis texture coordinates is usually present upon saving in whichever modeling tools you seem to have.

To flip a Mesh (any object in fact) you have normally a mirror button in the toolbar, but select carefully the... hmmm,... "reference point" I don't remember its name. But whatever it is, it's in the toolbar, not far from the selecting mode, you have several options (Center, local, parent, world, [and your own]). If you're working an a half of mesh (with a symetry modifer) select the World "reference point", else, the Local one (it's the pivot point).

Has anyone had any success importing an x file into Blender? The way it is now, all I can get is the Ascension Crystal.

I have tried over & over & again with Blender latest, upgraded, Python driven, the whole verification steps... and it won't load a DirectX model saved with genuine 3dStudioMax specific options used by SD developpers. PandaX for Blender simply doesn't recognize their files. Thus, gave up on it months ago.

Sadly, it could have been the only FREE solution beside having to do tricky acrobatics with shareware converters (reasonably priced, MilkShape_3d comes to mind) and some proper resaving of a mesh with Wings-3d.

Sure enough, the very old gMaX is strictly a gimmick to promote Discreet's best... but seriously, what kind of freaky modder would spend 4000$+ just for a few ships?

That doesn't make us any less talented, artistic wise.

We simply do it all for free, personal use and indirectly provide supplemental value to a product we paid for.
