This posting has changed completely from hating seth to music.
Simple. It's changed from a topic that no one wants to discuss to one that people do want to discuss.
While there are certainly people that get along with some people less than others, mostly no one wishes anyone else any actual harm. Hate falls into the category of actual harm.
I think I can speak for many on this forum that consider the topic of a person's psychological motivations as "touchy feely". The whole topic makes us uncomfortable. So while no one wishes anyone else actual harm no one also appreciates being put into the position where their response can cause actual hurt.
It's like the guy at the office that you exchange casual greetings with. When you say "Hi, how are you" the last thing you really want to hear is for the guy to start telling you all his problems. You're only making polite casual conversation. The correct response is something like "Fine, and yourself".
This online "net interaction" as some have called it is similar. While I do believe that a few actual friendships do develop, mostly at best it's merely a bunch of acquaintances. You need to know the difference between a friend and an acquaintance and act accordingly.
The same person that mentioned "net interaction" also seemed to imply that the purpose of it was to "win friends and build a reputation". The people that I do feel come close to actual friendship are those that share the belief that this kind of attitude is a load of crap. I come to this site simply to discuss a game that I love and I assume that others come to this site for the same purpose, everything else is superfluous.
You need to be secure in your own skin. No one else can do that for you. If you aren't comfortable with yourself then who else can be? I'm not a physciatrist or a pyschologist, and it's not my job to try to build someone up if they get too down on themselves nor conversely to try to knock someone down when they get too full of themselves. But like I said, I doubt anyone here wishes anyone else actual harm and while there may be a few willing to kick someone when they're down, most would at least make the attempt at helping someone up before adding insult to injury.
