There would be three diffrent fighters and special one for each race. The bomber would be the main attacker for the ships, it would be slower and have more armor, but is easly destroyed by other ships. Fighters would be the escorts for the bombers, and the main protecter against enemy bombers,it would be faster and have less armor than the bomber and deal less damage against the enemy ships. The transport would carry marines and have them fight to get inside the ship and then they can rip it apart from the inside, or capture it, or even place a bomb on it and blow the hole thing up
Or you can play Star Wars Battlefront 2. Just Kidding. But that does sound a bit involved for this type of game, especially since there is no tachtical combat and most of the time I dont stay to watch the entire battle.
The idea for carriers is older than my life with GC2. But from what I understand about some new modules for ToA, You will be able to have better fleets of small ships with one ship giving some sort of support, Such as added fleet speed. And thats really the essence of having a carrier; a ship that transports smaller ships.
i DO like that idea that a ship can take specific damage; not necessarily from a fighter. Meaning, that during a battle a ship can lose a portion of its offencive ability due to opponents weapons, so you'd be less armed for the remaining rounds of battle. I once posted the idea for additional modules for ships that would either make enemy's weapons miss, or you weapons more accurate etc. (i think thats where they got the idea for those new fleet enhancers. and no, i cant prove that, lol)
