i`ve tried making my own worlds so far no go,... have not like what i`ve done so i`ll keep working on it
Those that have mods with planets they have done my hats off to them !!!
as i find new worlds and make my own if they work i`ll post them here who know maybe i`ll end up with a MOD !!!!
Good luck, it is after all a lot of fun to be able to customize how a system really looks in the interface.
In X-Worlds/05-C, there is only 22 "temporary" planets... so, during the last two weeks i managed to raise this number to a full-blast 13x3=39 individual Homeworlds and a set of random planets (6 in each A/T/U categories) to fill the ranks of Fiver's maxed out system(s).
From 32b-512x256 textures all the way down to 128x64 (for PQ-4 or less only, defined as 0.25/starsize). It was painful to have to use much lower resolutions... but i've got a motto for a zipping pack which i try to adhere as much as possible. There's no real use for high scale once you realize the map zooms can't actually show every tiny details anyway, even if the maximum is used. How often do players really click on these, anyway? Once or twice, just for fun!
I do think planets are Key-Items in this game - might as well provide immersive stuff, somehow. X-Com races are fascinating in fact. The green Muton themselves, MUST be on a specially devised greeny sphere, you bet. Now, onto the Apocalypse dimension; huge variety, fantastic coloring, tremendous amount of conditions == even more designing fun.

After all, S-H-A-D-O
does have a real Moon-base - ON the Moon, what else? And if you've never seen UFOs indirectly represented in orbit (as pseudo satellites), you certainly will if i have it my way.
Thunderbirds-5 is actually a real space/station in the TV-Show, soooo it's also orbiting already.
And-So-On...
