Starting planet PQ 10 with upto 16B is a tad extream-

Well i think so

I like the fact that the starting planet of your civilization has an extra boost but isn't 16B a little to much for a PQ10 planet?

Yes it gets managable after you reseach a bit of tech but at the start it is plain nasty. Specially with the reduced colonizer limit of 250.

Tried to build a bigger colonizer to take more people but fell behind in the colony rush and got creamed by the ai's

Cheap and quick seams to be the best at the moment.

isn't 16B population a little to much for a PQ10 planet?

In my recent game I taxed my empire so high no HW ever grew much over 14B. However I have to add I've been using only one basic farm per planet above class 10, so most my colonies had ~80% approval at 9B.
