Playing against my own custom race? Awesome!

I made a custom race I thought were pacifists. I played as the altarians. eventually, they declared war on me anyway.

If you go to the Library forum, you'll find a couple of races with animations included. One is called Delean Republic which is just using the old Alteran animations from Dreadlords. The other is called Alien Girl. That one is strictly animations/pic etc. You'd need to attach them to your own custom race.

I wonder, though, if there are options to disable them from random race selection when you're choosing opponents. I'm sure you can delete the files for them too, but simply removing them from the pool of possible opponents would also be handy.

You can just move the raceconfigxml files from your DA directory and set them aside if you want them out of the opponent pool for a given game.

I have had this a couple times already. Although it can be a little confusing since the NPC has the colouring and icions as you and specially if they start close to you on the map.

But it really is not that bad, but a feature to disable them would be handy.

I agree, playing against custom races is pretty cool. I was suprised when one of my other races popped up in a game with me when I chose random opponents.

It's given me alot to experiment with, especially on the personality options page. Very interesting to see how just changing the AI behavior will really change the way the race plays, not to mention messing with the other sliders for ability, militantcy, alignment, etc. Keeps every game fresh really, to the point that I only put the stock races in there for my custom AI to chew up.

It is definately a huge fun feature, along with the mega events and super abilities, kudos to Stardock for a really incredible game.

I'm just hoping we see some budding 3D animators come out with some really cool looking diplomacy movies for our custom races. I was rather impressed with the work done on Alien Girl, I'd like to see more of the same.

So I started a new game of DA and began exploring the galaxy. I imported some custom race logos into my game and as I explored I noticed a colony with that logo that I'd just uncovered. "Funny," I thought. "I haven't colonized there yet." I clicked on the planet and lo and behold, the name of the race that owned the planet was the same as the custom race of that name I'd just created! Not only that but they were using the same race logo I'd picked for them in my last game, which happened to be the same one I'm using now.

But what an awesome touch to the game, playing against your own custom races! Very well done, Stardock! I like it.

Now if you could only make the AI play my custom race better, they're getting worked at the moment. I plan on exterminating them myself, in fact.

I have had this happen to myself also. I created a custom race called
"The Squirrel empire" and now they show up in almost all of my games.
They play poorly and almost always lose out quickly.

I also played a game with the Altarians so that the only change I made was changing the portrait of the leader.
The result of changing the portrait was that I now might play games with 2 A.I controlled Altarians. (playing as different leaders though)
As I explained in an earlier post, this causes somewhat severe problems.
Like both of the races having the same border color, same style of ships, even same logo so almost impossible to differentiate on the map.

I like the custom races too, and now i make sure they get a unique territory color. Where do you adjust the personality of the race is it stashed in an xml file somewhere?

You can do that ingame. Just hit Edit and look for the personalities tab. If you can give them the personalities of all default races currently in the game or give them a default one. Plus there's some sliders you can adjust to make them more agressive etc. I'm not sure if those really do anything myself. The default for all of the in-game races is right in the middle. I decided to crank the Korath up to 100% aggresive, but I don't see any indication he's any more inclined to attack me than before.

Yup i also have created a few custom races that now appear in most games. All have been given various AI's and after a bit of searching in the files they all have different colour borders.

On this note i had to go in and recolour all the AI's and minors so that their colours were all different. Rather than the pastel colours they used to have each AI and minor now have distinctive colours making custom races easier to differentiate and less hassle to choose a colour for.
