I have a question, which may lead to a bug report, if a bug is what the thing I observed turns out to be.
I (Arcean custom race) ended up in a race for a research victory (vs. Krynn) during an economic boom event. The event had lasted an unusually long time, and when it ended the Krynn were roughly 10 turns from victory, and I was about 21 (I know they got it by 8 turns).
The bit that confused me is that when the eco-boom event ended, the Krynn went from a low surplus to ~10000 bc income / ~20000 bc expenses. They stayed at roughly that rate for the remaining ten turns and their treasury hit zero within two turns. Despite their huge deficit they never seemed to take a hit to their research. The only time they fell back a turn from their goal was due to my taking over key research worlds and placing agents.
Am I forgetting some game dynamic? I thought that when a civ goes into severe debt all forms of production are suspended.
I can't remember off the top of my head what the game difficulty was (The saved game takes forever to load so I checked what settings were saved in the game creation menu and it said Painful, that seems about right), but the Krynn were at Genius.
I've made backups of the auto saves and the end game save in case people think this is a bug. If that's the case then I'll email them to the bug-line.
