This is it kids, my favorite canonical Star Trek ship. One could argue that this ship is the reason I am doing this mod. I could never do it justice…but I can sure try.
Those of you who are planning on using this hull pack, please go here and submit my form so that I can track how many people are into this sort of stuff.
This is one of those ships that deserves all the polys, do it is slightly more dense then the other meshes. No worries, as it is far below the poly count that would cause trouble with GalCiv. I’ve settled on 1600x1600 texture resolution, so there is enough detail to look good at close range.
I’ve put some real effort into getting a good lighting setup that shows off this model. Hopefully everyone is satisfied.
Here is the text from my previous post, in case you’ve missed it:
I plan to put out a teaser video of a fleet battle at some point, consisting of a variety of federation ships spanking some hairy Drengin ass. I’ll keep you posted
Again I am using fully lit textures, so no lighting done within the GalCiv2 engine itself. Since I am able to produce GalCiv2 ready high quality models using these Starfleet Command community mod ships in much less time then I took me previously, I plan on releasing many more ships in this mod pack then the ships in the table bellow. Stay tuned for updates (use this form if you want to receive email updates when new ships are available).
One more thing. I have run some tests to determine the minimum video ram required to run a game with this mod. I have tested the game on both a 64MB and a 256MB video card, using cubes mapped with –different- 5000x5000 (25,000,00 pixels) textures. The 64MB card was able to handle two different cubes (50,000,000 pixels total) on-screen at once, and a third gave it the runs. Each of my ships use about 2,500,000 pixels worth of textures, meaning a 64MB card should be able to handle about 20 –different- ships on-screen at once. You can have as many instances of each ship as you like (they share texture memory), and you can have anything else you want off-screen, but for on-screen texture usage, I think a 64MB card should be sufficient, but it will definitely be a minimum requirement.
If you wouldn’t mind, please post your video card stats so I can get a rough idea of what platform to shoot for.
Here is the list of ships so far. I plan to add a great deal more.
