not sure if it would be hard to do, but I know a lot of people are having fun just making ships and adding all the extras to them. and I look at the file with all the ships I've designed so far and its really accumulating. So maybe it would be possible to add the shipyard as a choice on the main menu at start up so people could just design a ship without getting into a game, and it could have every ship design, so that old models or designs you dont like can be permanently deleted. Then also, maybe a check box to save certain base, blinged out hulls that will be present at the start of every new game, that way you can just add weapons or anything else to that design, saving time and designs you like to use. just an idea, if anyone likes it let me know, maybe stardock will read this.
