[quote who="CraigHB" reply="6" id="2507515"]There's too many things here and there where descriptions don't match results. Unfortunately, the only way to become aware of them is just by experience. I made a post a very long time ago about the Omega Research Center stating it should be civ wide as indicated by the description or the description should be changed. Once you've done any modding, you find how simple and quick it is to correct something li
[quote] The key is not to plunk down a valable fleet. Just a few ships is the way to go. If they come under pressure, just start upgrading them. As the game goes, I'll add some of my aging larger hulls to protect my starbases. That depends on a few factors.... if you have been at war allot then older ships will have experience making them more valuable on the front lines once upgraded. Also i will often not have the funds for upgradi

It doesn't appear to be required, but you can be sure that a lot of people will recommend that you have it (if not for GalCiv2, then just to help squash the bugs and security issues in SP1). Yeah, get SP2 as soon as possible. I don't know of any real reason not to install it.
Those "little" fleets are transports with escorts. I do the same thing just before I attack an opponent.
Errr... superhest, by late game the AI has more movesment points per fleet than you can have ships in orbit. Which means defending without an OFM loses the advantage, so I always have one, and put powerful defence ships in orbit. I almost never put more than a single ship to defend a planet. I
Although I will admit that unescorted transports is just silly. I was using cargo hulls load with nothing but engines and 1 gun to shoot them all down, while the enemy fleets just hung around my planets because they had wiped out everything I had. They couldn't invade though because there transports were all unprotected. </TR
Turn up the difficulty then. While the AI can be further improved, the amount it can be improved without it taking a LOT of time between turns is at this point well into diminishing returns. Even as-is, some people are saying on huge galaxies that there are half minute waits if things get really harry. Tha
No, they're attacking a fleet. It's always 1 mp to attack a fleet, and this won't be changed. I use orbital fleet managers on my best planets, and design defenders with very high defences that won't be wiped out in the first turn, and can still do heavy damage. I don't bother with them at all. I pref
I would't even want to think about finishing a gigantic map ironman style.
Well, for whatever reason I have the enemies starbases showing up in my list where I once had a starbase that they destroyed. Are you talking about the ship list? You do know that you can filter that for your own ships or for all ships including other races etc. So I'm guessing you have it set for a

Another question, Do you notice this problem during your own turn, or is it only when the turn button is not visible (between turns)? Performance hit during my turn and an even larger hit when the turn button is not visible.
Try turning down your production a bit. It may be that this was somehow set much higher.
We are investigating this. Is anyone else seeing this? Yes, I've seen a noticable hit in performance on a system that should have no problems. I'll post my logs later tonight when I get home. Just for the record, I'm runnin AMD Athlon 64 4800 x2 Nvidia 7800gtx 256 mb
None, other than the bragging rights. Well "cool" looking bling under your posts maybe. Its all about the bling.
Try researching some military techs earlier and devote a planet to building nothing but military ships. If you can keep up or exceed the AIs in military strength early in the game they will tend to leave you alone.
Yeah I got that event in the current game I'm playing with abundant planets. It ended up creating 50 or so class 9 planets. Crazy.
It's not just the DL, its all ais. I always research multiple weapons techs because of this.
Unless you are using 64-bit Windows more than 3GB won't do you much good. That is why I only went to 3 instead of loading up to 4. I am using 64 bit Windows XP
Play on gigantic galaxy with abundant planets and/or stars and 2 gigs ram won't be enough. I am going to upgrade to 4 gigs soon.
Hmm sounds like something enron execs would do. Sell the emipire out from under everyone and bail with the loot.
