What difficulty? ARe you saying that in 4 years you guys are tossing black hole generators at one another? I guess from MetalKid's MV profile that it was on Suicidal - which explains it, as the AIs get big undocumented bonuses to most stats at that level (makes the game very interesting). Still, 8 BHGs on a small hull is fairly impressive - I

The population cap for a planet is ((PQ+1)^3)*20,000,000 up to a maximum of 100billion. As long as the pop is below the cap for a planet, it will grow that turn.
Quixotecoyote, are you sure? When I have the universal translator, and another race doesn't, I'm able to talk to them. I can tell when this happens, because I'm able to sell them the tech. If the Drengin have it but cannot use it, I think that would be a serious bug that would have been fixed long ago. That is the problem - and why it is an ex
How is avoiding getting demands an exploit. That is a valid tactic and a clever one I've never thought to use. I'm curious as to how broad your definition of 'exploit' is. Seems there is some grand order of gameplay you are required to follow, otherwise it's an exploit. It's an exploit of a flawed game mechanic. If a race such as the Drengin d
To put it bluntly, bull. I am doing nothing cheesy. followed by: I avoid the Translater Tech until after the first war is over. That way no demands are made on me, and less chance of them starting a war instea
Ummmn excuse me when did we make FIRST PLACE EMPIRE!!!!! WOOT Happened during the recalc. Still some problems to iron out though, as I've still got 4 games that didn't get recalculated. Sorry to say but we'll lose about 400K when they fix that.
Looks like the v1.1 beta 1&2 games (which still used the old v1.0 scoring system) slipped through the net on the recalc - I've still got some rather excessive scores in there that will be impossible to match in v1.1.
within 3 rounds, a single civ owns them all with colony ships that move 8 times faster than anything you can build. Maybe you need to play at lower levels until you get better As far as I kno
I was an hardcore fan of PnP AD&D second edition Now I'm feeling old I gave up playing AD&D before 2nd Ed was released. Still got a full set of the 1st Ed books in the loft - along with loads of TSR modules, Judges Guild stuff, & the first 200 issues o
I am currently about to finish Tech win # 2 with the Yor (race #2) and will cycle through all the races on Tech before moving on to the ~slightly~ more desirable Political Victory and cycle through them all again, then to Culture and finally to Military. Chip, if you can suffer through winning 10 tech victories, then you deserve a box full of m
Played Civ4 3 times then got fed-up, it's basically a same-o-same-o game Sums it up quite nicely I think - although I think I got half way through game 4 before falling asleep at the keyboard at just after midnight. Never got the "just one more turn"
I see our focus on UI issues is a good thing It sure is, and I'm very glad you are once again responding to suggestions from the user base. Top marks. The auto-focus doesn't annoy me at all, but it is clearly a big problem for a lot of
Found this plaent, which IMHO is pretty nice You seem to have forgotten to build your tech capital there. Game I started last night, I found 3 (yes, 3) PQ26 planets within one sector of my homeworld <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc
Right-clicking on the blue boxes that scroll down the right of your screen when ships are completed launches the ship and centres on it.
Brings to mind a certain famous saying... "There's lies, damn lies, and statistics". The possibility of unexpected results due to variance is what keeps the game interesting. Besides, your analysis completely ignores the concept of fleet battles - my experience with the new combat rules is that if you do not fit your ships with appropriate defenses, you lose many more than if you do. The chan
So I've won a few games and can get around 20000 points per game. But I see people getting scores >100000 points in the same amount of time. Is there a trick to getting a high score? Suicidal difficulty, gigantic maps, military conquest, 8-10 years. Optimize economy / population / approval / military power, complete the tech tree. D
I agree that the AI shouldn't part with resources easily but FCS it seems extreme to just turn off trading resources completely It's not turned off completely - I traded for a fully developed mining resource base at a cost of just under 2,000,000bc in my last game (suicidal, AI was friendly). <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smi
Wait a minute - "Def-what?". Def-initely going to lose a lot of ships if you ignore these now.
It's just 10 farms with the top farming tech as well, and I think ten farms, six morale structures, and a factory should be the staple of all pq +17. The cash is so worth it Try 2 farms (keeping them at "intensive" so 21b max pop), 2 factories, & 13 Stock Markets if you want to maximise cash - you'll get much more that way.
the attackers and the defenders will both get their shots off every round before the damage is inflicted... that will lead to some design changes for me (I have not been using any defense until late game large and huge ships) The change is actually included in the test version that e-stab & I are using (that fixed the saved game problems). It r
And am I the only one losing posts in this place?!? Who said that? We must have some strange form of undead wandering the forums, randomly snacking on unsuspecting posts.
Your best advice is on the farms. When I see people talking about building multiple farms and multiple approval buildings I immediately think cakewalk player. Just shows how totally wrong you can be.
Combat seems to end after just one round now, or am I mistaken? There does appear to be just a single round of combat (i.e. every involved ship fires once only, and survivors on both sides is a regular occurrence). Don't know if this is intended or not, but the battle ends with a "String not found" message (to be expected, as Cari said data fi
Good post e-stab. It's pretty much the same with any 4x game though - get a strong economy and you can do what you want. They need to make it so that people who don't focus on economy specifically can get by with another strategy without constantly being in the red. If you really try to maximise economy, you can (as you know) get a huge income. I have to say that v1.1 has made a considerable
Ouch... it's Monday... But it's a holiday Monday here , so no ouch (except for the aliens).
