Hmmm, looks very interesting. Might even get me to momentarily forget my eternal hatred of all things RTS just long enough to pre-order it. Of course, then I'd just have to play it a little bit too.

I feel the 70% pop growth bonus is largely redundant since 1.3 was released - the 8 billion starting pop mitigates it's need to provide coloniser passengers, and the move away from huge planet populations due to the nerfing of farms and morale buildings means that it is only useful for a very limited amount of time - which for 6 points is not good value. Furthermore, taking it without an associated morale bonus can do you more harm than good as your pop growth can outstrip your morale a

Squad Leader Still got the original boxed game (+ Cross of Iron, + Crescendo of Doom, + GI: Anvil of Victory). They're all up in the loft somewhere with my 1st Ed AD&D stuff Now you've got me feeling old too!

Doubtful, it was a major exploit. Buy all tech / ships / whatever you want off the AI for 1bc + 1,000,000 bc per turn. Invade and destroy them the same turn - no-one to pay off anymore, so you just got a bunch of stuff for free. Also, by repeatedly selling AIs stuff for per turn payments you could easily cripple their economy to the point where they would have to shut down all production and research.

1st one: "Tigers in the Snow" by SSI on the C64. Most addictive: got to be "Stars!" - still go back to it every so often, despite the graphics (or rather non-graphics). A real shame that Supernova Genesis never got completed. SMAC comes a close second though!

Don't think so FC - I'm fairly sure you can only get one submission from each start point. No doubt the wise one (Kryo) will confirm or deny this as appropriate.

As far as I know the player cannot decommission them so I don’t believe the AI can either. Yeah, you can - just select the starbase and hit "Delete", same as for ships. As to why the AI would do such a thing, who knows. Can't say I've ever seen it, but then I don't let them keep their resources for very long anyway. <img src="http://im

Single character IMO. Two things affect this decision for me... 1. Metaverse recalcs - my first 2 characters were knocked off the number 1 spot and decimated scorewise by the recalcs. 2. There is no grouping of games in 30-day brackets as there was with GC1 - which means that the diminishing returns factor is in effect for ever.

Those games can be very enjoyable u know, its like putting everything u know, have learned playing GC2 for months into practice, like a masters event. Also at the end u get justly rewarded, scorewise. Very true - that is exactly what I did on the last game I submitted. Took me ages to play it because I micromanaged everything to get the best out

We have the Orcas in sight now and the Vulcans are ready to attack Yes, a good long flight from the Vulcan followed by a precision bommbing run on the Orcas should do the trick. No GC for me until the weekend though - got to go to London for

All RAM is not equal... Always check out the CAS values for the RAM you are buying - most "value" options will be CAS 5-x-x-x. The first of the 4 numbers is the most important, as that is the number of clock cycles (at the specified RAM speed) that it takes to get the first bit moving in each request. You want to be getting CAS 2-x-x-x in whatever speed RAM you buy. PC2100 is 133Mhz or 7.5 nano-seconds per clock cycle PC2700 is 166Mhz or 6ns PC3200 is 200Mhz or 5ns

Happens when you use "Information Warfare". For some reason, when you lose the number of troops that defected to you gets added back into the remaining population of the planet. I guess it's a bug in the code that is doing something like: "survivors = initialpop - losses" and not including defectors in the equation.

Sometimes you have a planet so crap that you dont want it to be building any ship, So... don't build starports on those planets - problem solved. A more configurable governor as stated in the OP would be very useful, but I think the ability to drag-select (or even standard windows shift / ctrl & left click select) a group of planets from

You must be talking about 1 on 1 ship battles (say taking out planetary defenders). No, the 20:1 ratio I described is using fleets of 7 huge hull ships (now possible with 1.3 logistics changes) to attack fully defended planets (up to 10 ships with orbital fleet improvement), or fleets of 20+ AI small ships in free space. The AI in question has m

I agree with Kblore here totally. Even with the massive AI miniaturisation bonuses that they get at Suicidal (meaning small hull defenders having 200+ attack rating), I can still design fast huge ships with enough defenses to survive prolonged military campaigns - losing about 1 ship for every 20 killed on average. Yes, I can build small ships to do the same job at a tenth of the cost, but seeing as they will be lost in a one to one ratio this is a false economy. They key to th

I am for equal trades ony. If I want to trade the Ai for a PQ 10 for a PQ 10 I should be able to. Yes - but is a PQ10 with a 300% production bonus tile equal to a PQ10 with a 300% research bonus tile, or 3 100% influence bonus tiles etc? Did the planet receive a bonus or penalty on colonisation? How well developed is it, and how many people? Does

Yes, and building values are in planetimprovements.xml (i think that's it's name). Both files should be in the \Data\English\ subdirectory of the main game install directory. Only problem is, you won't be able to play metaverse games if you mod these - if metaverse is at all important to you.

Becuase really all I want to do is trade the AIs Starbase Mining Research 49 in my territory for my Starbase Mining Research 132 in there territory. Never tried it, so can't say for sure, but I doubt it is possible in the current version. It usually costs 2.5-3million BC to buy a fully upgraded mining starbase now - can't say I've ever even consi
