I want to be able to trade planets especially ones near my border and I want to be able to trade and purchase starbases. You still can, no-one has taken away the ability to trade for planets or starbases etc. Only their values to the AI were changed to make them far more reasonable and less exploitable within the context of the game.

The AI will sell you any of his planets for hundreds o thousands of BC. The AI will buy one of your planets for about a hundred BC. That is, if you invest in Diplomacy, Influence and have a Galactic Bazaar. It seriously sucks. It's done that way to prevent serious exploitation - i.e. trade PQ 5 planet in middle of your empire to AI for lots of te

Are you SURE the ~5000 # of ships is literal, or has some 'exaggeration for effect' been employed? No exaggeration whatsoever, it was approx 4000 of the little blighters as I said - at least 10 per sector (every sector). The number of ships is probably related to difficulty level and your current military power in some way. I've got noth

1. Computer can handle gigantic galaxies with thousands of ships just fine thank you, but then you'd expect that with a 3.6Ghz P4, 4Gb ram and GeForce 7900 - which I think you'll find just about fulfills the hardware requirements. The problem is with the sudden AI initiation of hundreds of pointless attacks. Yes, I can switch the game to not show any battles, but why should a random event force a configuration change just to keep the game playable. 2. Metaverse game - so mods not possib

Well, after 20 minutes of it trying to figure out what to do with the 4000 ships it had generated, and launching a few hundred individual attacks against my fleets, I just killed the process. Seriously, what good is it sending an attack 2 ship against a fleet of attack 500+, defense 300+ dreadnoughts a few hundred times. The event is just an annoyance that serves no purpose. If it happened in the early game when the ships were capable of damaging your own ships, then it would

I have never had a planet go past 24 Billion. I like to play with 100% approval. That is your choice, and a perfectly good strategy to pursue. My last submitted game had no planets in excess of 21 billion because I chose to play it that way, whereas the previous 2 games finished with most planets at their maximum possible population, and still 1

For what it's worth, I think the positives about 1.3 outweigh any negatives, and Stardock deserve all the credit they get for there commitment to improving the game. I'm certainly having an interesting game (suicidal, gigantic, abundant everything, 7 opponents) so far. In the past I have played many games, and tried many different planet build strategies - mostly to good effect. This is what sets GC2 apart from the rest of the TBS genre IMO - you can use multiple different strategies to

High populations per planet are not needed for mega scores. The last game I submitted on 1.2 had no planets with a population over 21 billion, and not a single entertainment building anywhere in my empire. I figure that 19 billion will be the optimum planet population in 1.3, so overall scores are likely to be reduced slightly, but the same principles apply - micromanage to ensure maximum efficiency in the early turns.

I still kinda like BOOM! - it gives that feeling of satisfaction of another galaxy full of aliens "diplomatically integrated into civilised society"

There are some players that do switch over to using NLCs with a neutral alingement and get rid of their factory buildings -- this is a viable strategy even at suicidal difficulty i believe. Absolutely viable. 4 NLCs on a planet, using 100% research with production focus where required gives about 40 production points and 130 research points (depe

The Drengin / Altarian philosophy reversal event. Oh sh!t, these 2 militaristic, diametrically opposed, eternal enemies have just become best buddies and are looking for someone else to fight now Most games I can just ignore these 2 and let them slug it out until there's an eventual (weakened) winner. This event can really alter the whole dynamic of the game.

Maybe these chaps know, they seem to use them quite often (well every time I've seen them live in the past 30 years at least): Space truckin' Words & music by Ritchie Blackmore, Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Jon Lord and Ian Paice Well we had a lot of luck on Venus We always had a ball on Mars Meeting all the groovey people We've rocked the Milky Way so far We danced around with Borealice We're space truckin' 'round the stars Come on, co

Thats why were testing this beta to make sure you guys don't release another 1.2. 1.2 Final was in no way, shape, or form stable. Say what? I think you need to look a bit closer to home to find the cause of your instability. v1.2 is rock solid - I've played half a dozen long gigantic games and not had a single crash or lockup that was attributab

Congrats to you and Mrs Frogboy - extending the release cycle to v3.0 is a brave step I feel (v2.0 was enough to persuade me to stop development on the product, although beta testing is always fun) Seeing as regular sleep patterns are now firmly off the agenda, I assume that we will see even more devious AI updates in the near future. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Cool.gif

For a serious answer to your question, The Galactic Diplomats could be the place for you. Hop on over to our public forums at thegalacticcore.com to learn more. Don't worry about the name - our form of diplomacy is a little more on the aggressive side, shall we say (OK, so we like blowing things up as well).

100 billion population, with 100% morale at 49% taxes is easily obtainable with 3-4 morale buildings on gigantic maps. Sometimes 59% tax, 100% morale or 69% with morale still above 90% is possible. Now they generate a lot of cash!

Announcing the Galactic Core Fantasy Football League And there I was, mistakenly thinking that you meant a sport that involved players using their feet to control a ball and move it around the field of play (as the name football would suggest). Silly me! <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Laugh.gif" border=0 ALIGN="

LOL More to do with the recalc then anything I did. Thanks Don't put yourself down ED - you deserve it! But beware, The_Storyteller has started writing your epitaph already.

1,775 Replies 2,408,225 Views

The problem is, they applied the recalc routine to all the v1.1 betas, even betas 3, 3A, 4 and the memory issue special fix - all of which were already using the new scoring system. So legitimate scores using the current system were divided by a factor of around 10 just because they were a beta - that's the thanks you get for playing with the buggy betas, spending hours suffering random CTDs and save game issues, and sending debug and exception logs off to help them produce a stable
