Thanks for that Terpfan - being in the UK we don't get to hear about games relating to baseball, so that is a very useful and informative post. It's a shame the place is full of ignorant trolls who are too stupid to even navigate a forum successfully. No surprise that they all find baseball boring - it probably requires a brain cell count into double figures to understand the game. Despite being English, I am a huge baseball fan

11). Many techs not implemented. Stuff like learning centers (neutral ethics) effectively is just wasted research. I think you may have a nerfed install. Neutrality learning centers are there and working fine in my beta 4 install. I'm also not seeing other things you've mentioned (or maybe not noticed
What's your opion on the new scoring formula? How do you see it effecting game play? Not as much as the new AI tweaks - this game just got a lot more intense with beta 4. The Torians have just become the
The crash is a bug in Beta 3A - should be fixed in Beta 4, so download that. The performance problems are down to your graphics card. Only 32Mb - you'll need to: 1. update the drivers for it 2. switch off most, if not all, textures in the graphics options. 3. only play smaller maps 4. would also recommend increasing your pagefile.
Nope. I got that line in my debug all the time in beta 3 Yeah - but it didn't cause a CTD in Beta 2 or 3 because they cleaned up the code that ran when it happened. Hopefully it is just a coincidence in this case that a CTD happened straight after it, and that it is in fact down to the old video
5 tough games, 1 challenging. My medal is still challenging (my first submitted game) That is correct - the average rating is still below tough. Play one game above tough and it will average out to tough.
Pagefile is too small - this game requires a minimum of 1Gb total free RAM (physical + pagefile). You probably ran out of virtual memory and the game closed itself.
Creative are not good for providing up to date drivers for older cards. You do need to try and find one that was released after DirectX9 though, as the one you've got (which is an MS default driver, not a Creative one) predates Dx9 by a good few years. Not sure of the exact model you have but www . soundblaster . com is the best bet and it's not too hard to navigate their driver downloads (from the Support page, then pick downloads). I doubt
There were quite a few bugs in beta 1 - no way you are going to find out what caused it unless you can run smart exception and decode the crash file yourself, because SD are not going to be interested in debugging an old beta version anymore. That said, it could well be related to your rather old sound card drivers.
A ship has to have at least 1 in one of the defence categories before it gets the starbase bonuses - so if it has 0 0 0 to start with, it will always have 0 0 0. Same goes for the attack ratings. This is to prevent constructors / transports etc getting ridiculous stats that boost your military rating just because they are parked near a military starbase. The non-updated economy starbases are probably just being used as range extenders.</fon
Debug Message: A* Path too long to calculate (32.802441). Aborting Uh-oh - that was a bug in Beta 1 that had disappeared in betas 2&3. Hope it hasn't found it's way back in to 4...
The important point was that the change log was correct -- the AI WOULD NOT trade those starbases with you or give them to you. A bit extreme though Brad - "It's my game and if I can't have the starbase, no-one can"...CRASH! <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Cool.gif" border=0 AL
Yeah, the trolls get lots of responses - keeping their posts in view far longer than they should be. Only fair to do the same... Glad you are enjoying the game - I've been playing virtually non-stop since release day and still enjoying it. OK, so I've always been a TBS fan, but considering Civ4 got put on the shelf after a couple of weeks...</f
Be happy with your free terraforming and happy people Don't forget the "Neutrality Learning Centres" that are in the game now (and better than Discovery Spheres, for less build cost and much earlier), and the trade bonuses. Not bad luck at all - I feel that Neutral is the best option now,
Files on their way to Cari... here's the debug though: Crash happens in the trading screen, as soon as adding / removing an ai ship into the trade *IF* you already have something on your side of the trade. If your side is clear, no crash. I get it also with a 7800 SE Ditto Weyr - 7800 GS. It is nothing to do with the game, but as Mistoffeles said a DirectX / Nvidia hangup - haven't had it since the nvidia driver update on 17th March, so hopefully they've fixed it (or at least made it happen less).
Path too long to calculate (29.068884). Aborting Known bug in 1.1beta 1 - fixed in beta 2 or 3. Happened when an AI tried to establish a long trade route. Stick to medium or smaller galaxy sizes though, with that setup.
You should have your system set your page file for you so that it'll grow as needed Ugh! I have to take issue with this bit of advice Brad - it's OK (almost) to do that if you have the pagefile on a seperate partition, but doing it when it's on the system partition (as most pre-built machines will hav
This game really needs more graphics options. There is a whole page of them under Options\Video - but you do need to download the patch (v1.0x), not sure if they were all there in the original release. Your drivers (video and sound) are also both old and need updating. But the bottom line
The lack of being able to build earlier versions of the buildings is a MAJOR bug! A "bug" is something in the code that is not working as it was designed to. This is working exactly as designed, therefore it is not a bug, but a design decision that you happen to disagree with. <TABLE cellpa
When SD **finally** finishes the MV scoring I hope/expect they will delete ALL scores back to zero to give everyone a fair shake. No, they'll recalculate the existing submitted scores with the new algorithm - so everyone will be playing on a level playing field.
1. Soundcard drivers are antiquated - you can't expect DirectX 9 based code to work well with drivers released years before DirectX 9. 2. Page file is far too big for amount of physical ram (1.5 or 2 times physical RAM would be better). Unlikely to be the cause of your problem though. 3. Try disabling hardware acceleration for the soundcard through dxdiag - I've seen similar problems before with AC97 cards. 4. 1.1beta1
The devs rarely reply, even to quick and reasonable questions. So exactly which mythical planet, stuck in a corner of the galaxy at least 100 parsecs from the rest of civilization, have you been living on recently? <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Smile.gif" border=0 ALIGN="absmi
Look for games with influence voctory turned off Errr... disabling influence victory is an option made available in the game setup - so how can this be "cheese"? Maybe some of us actually want to play the game, and not have it end artificially after 2 years with an influence victory.
Anything else I can do? Update to patch 1.0x would probably help loads - can be found in the downloads section on this site (just look for "bonus pack" which includes the patch). You're not going to get extreme performance out of an MX440 though, so best to keep it to small maps and turn m
