Only loosing 4 spies to get up to Advanced intel for each race is too expensive? I'm sure that if you had 8 opponents under the pre-2.0 system, you'd loose more than 32 spies in the process of gaining Advanced with all 8 races.
Depends on game style - i don't think i've even produced 32 spies in any game i've played. I think the beta does something for playing on immense, but it shouldn't 'penalise' what is likely to be 99% of games which will be on smal

beta feedback: 1. New spy system isn't doing it for me. Seems now to be more complicated without improving gameplay. Information spying now requires anything fron 4-32 spies which is too expensive for what you get, and, at present, these spies have no mobility. I think the same thing could be achieved with much more simplicity, like simply placing a spy on a civ's capital will access civ info over time, placing a spy on a starport will access orbital fleet info etc etc.
No as a fellow aussie I had a few problems but the following seemed to work for me: * Open the twighlight install folder * Rename the executable * Select the 'verify installation' item (results the verify error) * Select the DA icon (results in '!' next to twighlight icon) * Do update Hope this helps
thanks for this. evil (another aussie)

look at the first tech and see if the prerequisite tech is set to the future tech. this causes the crash normally

this is a known bug with creating new tech trees - when you save the new tech file for some reason it resets the first tech (usually admantium or some such) so that it's prerequsite tech is admantium II, creating an insoluble loop. simply check the first tech, and make the prerequisite tech the right one, and resave evil

mmm, i wish the powers would sticky this one: it's likely that your modded tech tree has the first tech admantium (sp?) set to having as a precursor tech admantium 2. this crashes the game on start up. don't know why, but that's what happens hope this help evil

have a look at the first tech - admantium. check whether it's preceding tech is admantium II. for some reason, resaving a tech tree can cause this to happen, and this definitely crashes the game on startup. evil

i tend to agree. singularity drivers is another weapon that seems out of step with it's place in the tree. i've been having a good look at the weapons/defence costs with a view to making a more compressed tech tree, and ion beams stand out in terms of research cost. it's interesting - the cost weighting of weapons techs is slanted quite heavily in favour of beam weapons, particularly for the evil races. mass drivers and missiles don't have anywhere near the same ethical attention, bein

ignore this - looks like it's deliberate, though the longer i examine weapons in the tech tree for each race, the more confused i get about the intent.
Rename the originals with a .BAK extension
this is sorta what i did with the terran tech tree -renamed it Terran_TechTree_Original, then changed it back to Terran_TechTree - the only thing that changed was the date of the file.... anyhow thanks for all your help. i'll see if i can find a Terran_TechTree somewhere :)

so there i am fiddling around with the Terran Tech Tree in the Tech Editor. I save the orginal Terran Tech Tree under a different name in case i accidentally replace it (this is probably mistake number one), and then resave it under it's original name after i've futzed around with a new terran tech tree. outcome: can't play a new game as Terran. Can load a save game of Terran, and can have the AI play Terran, but me no play Terran no more, as it CTD's on startup. any suggestions? i'm thinking re

is it intentional for the Yor to only have 4 phasor techs rather than the usual 7 (ie they have phasor 1, phasor 2, phasor 6, phasor 7)? or is it corruption in my tech tree?

1 Replies 2,507 Views
Is this a bug?
i found this once in the beta and reported it - so i think it might be. ChristopherRobin, i believe the autodesign ships replace the default ships :)

If you click on the Yor at startup, the startup techs *include* the 2 new techs (firewalls etc). If you click on another race, and then back to the Yor, the 2 new techs disappear (which is correct). as an aside, i got the startup techs a little confused in my last post, but (if I've got it right now *this* time) I believe the Korath is missing Germ Warfare in the startup list, and the Korx are missing Xeno Mysticism. another aside - there appears to be some 'corruption' in the tech tree -

these may or may not be bugs, and may or may not have been put on a list to squash, but as time approacheth.... 1. New hull types in isometric view, wheras old are 2D top down 2. efficiency studies II is the *only* efficiencies studies that is tradeable. 3. the mini map toggle open/close is still present if you go into ship design via the planet screen on the second attempt. 4. resource harvested messages pops up twice. 5. intestellar construction triggers auto ship design, b
I'm not sure what you mean by "Defense can't be graded % wise." I haven't seen any instance of the AI putting components on the ship that you don't have tech for. If you have a save game, please zip it and send it in to [email protected] Also, what do you mean by "still no upgrades for AI designed ships?"
sorry cari - wasn't clear - the "defence can't be graded" meant I can't set my defence to 33% shields 33% armour 33% point defence, o

on reload the the ship design focus defaults back to beam/shields, even if you have set it to something else, and giving you wrong ship designs if you don't manually change it back. anyone else have this? also, defence can't be graded % wise and you can't set it all to zero. i'm also noticing that if you have 100% shields selected, for instance, when you have no shields, the AI still seems to attach a shield style component to the hull?? still no upgrades for AI designed ships?

1. ctd in ship design, upgrading base transport with better engines (playing altarian). debug sents 2. arcean military rating is 'strongest' in diplo window, but 'zero' in race comparison window.

old bugs: the looping of dropdown of "console" on main map when entering ship design for the second time from planet screen constructors on resources - "do you want a starbase" message appears twice? trade goods not adding into overall % on planet summary screen - appearing seperately (this may be by design?) new ones: upgrading AI designed ships, M1 > M2 > M3? (might not be implemented yet?) one start up had in system Athol (Arcaean), Arcaea, Hammer 2 and *A

i'm having a closer look at the graphics degradation (with my low-end rig, possibly the lowest you can play GC2 with ie PM 1ghz, intel extreme 2, 512 ram), and the deterioration doesn't take long - within about 15 minutes from starting the game, playing around with a medium sized ship in the ship design window will drop from 15fps to 4fps, then down to around 1-2 fps. usually with this rig, fps problems only occur on large+ ships, and only in the battle sequences. anyone else having this issue?
