I noticed there was a new version of DL and so I downloaded it to see if it would make a different. This time it crashed just after the turn changed. I tried it again. It seems debug.err has moved from the .exe directory to the saved game directory. It crashes after about a turn--invading, clicking on new production, etc. Here is my debug.err message: Debug Message: Version v1.80g Dark Avatar last updated on: Wed Dec 19 15:10:23 2007 Debug Message: Checking DX Version. I wonder if they changed anything other than .exe and .dll files. That would make it easy for me to switch back and forth.
I just installed it and had a limited amount of time to play. I loaded a game from 1.80f. Two ai opponents. I have only 1 gig mem. It crashed twice. Unfortunately I didn't save the debug.err so I am not going to do stardock any good. I was in a bad mood from fussing with new tv sets all day. I went back to 1.80f (actually e then f). I played for an hour and a half with no crashes. So now I am wary of g. Maybe I should try it again to collect the debug.er
It doesn't quit for me while looking at the map. We are talking about DA, right? Maybe it depends on the version.
At what point do you hit "F6"? At the menu?
I wonder whether F6 cleans out the memory properly but I'll try it. It's weird that "quit" doesn't get you out quickly.
I know this game uses a lot of memory--some of it virtual. But I have never seen a game that takes this long to quit. Sometimes several minutes, sometime it hangs. Ctr-Alt-Del can sometimes get rid of the game but even then it is long and arduous. Hey, I still love the game and keep on playing it!
I noticed a new version available: 1.80g I have been using 1.80f. I haven't had many problems with it. I can play a huge universe and don't have it slowing down like earlier versions. I still use 1.60 to generate universes. I think it gives more habitable 10+ planets. Though I haven't checked the latest versions. What's new or fixed in the new 1.80g?
Stars! had queues that you could save and reuse. It had a good AI (relatively speaking)--though not much eye candy. The whole game could fit on a floppy. I also would like to ability to manage my upgrades. Sometimes I get upgrades that I don't want and that bankrupt my economy. Then I have to go through and delete the "upgrades" one at a time. Takes a long time.
I own TA. My question is this: have enough bugs been worked out that I can play a game til the end without substantial problems? I realize that we are still in beta til probably January.
Very rarely I have had a ship highlighted but not appear on screen. Moving it makes it reappear. Very rarely. DA.
I like choices. I like anomalies. I like a lot of them. We get to choose how many. The AI should build more survey ships if the game has lots of anomalies. I hate when choices are taken away. If I like a lot of habitable planets or very few, there should be a choice for that. I grant you that it makes it more difficult to come up with a good ai. Please don't nerf my ai and habitable planet OPTIONS.
Here is 1.80 f test 2. Still not official. Works better than e. I've had a few strange things happen with test 1. The somewhat hanging change turn situation where it won't go to the next turn but I can save, reload, and go on. One crash to the desktop. No, I didn't save it. Haven't had any problems so far with test 2 after a couple of hours. Cari is workin thru the bugs. In the mean time, if you find a bug, remember it's not a bug, it's a feature...<br/
I have tried to archive the version I was currently using when there was a new version available. I was on, I think, an early version of 1.8 (b or c). Then d or e was available. When I tried to archive the early version 1.8, instead it wanted to archive a version of 1.5. To put it another way, if you have a good version, archive it now. You may not be able to archive it if a new version comes out even the older version is the one on your machine. There are two ways t

It is released. Thanks, Cari. She is not completely sure about it yet since there hasn't been enough time to test it with a lot of people. So it is not an official release. The link is found in the first "sticky" post at the top of bug forum. It is a zip file that you can download and try. We'll see whether it fixes the problem. Given that the bug was reported late Thursday, we should be glad we got something so early. So let's try it out--we are beta testin
Thanks CariElf, We'll try 'er out.
Isn't there a way to revert to the last build. I looked at the download manager but couldn't seem to pull up the prior build.
No, you can't get the old build unless you archived it at the time. Once there is a new build, I don't think you can archive your current build. At least I've never been able to do it. When I tried it, I got a way old build. It would be nice to have old builds--but not now. We haven't given Stardock enough time to fix the b
It was reported Thursday night (I reported it). But Stardock doesn't have to fix every bug instantly. Hopefully we will get a fix this next week sometime. But I know they are under pressure to keep pumping out TA betas.
I want to amend my original bug statement. I have noticed that I can right click my fleets several spaces beyond their turn limit. I am unable to tell whether that "several" depends the range in the turn or not. It typically looks like two or three spaces. Obviously I cannot move the fleet a long distance with a right click. Stardock will save us.
I haven't had any troubles Alt-Tabbing. Huge universe with only 1 gig memory. This is with pretty much all the 1.8 versions. I've had fewer "slow-downs" too.
Sometimes we like the older versions while they are improving the newer versions. This is a case in point.
I think I was playing 1.80c before and didn't see this bug. I wish I could have archived 1.80c. I tried to do it but once there is a newer version, you can't archive the version you have. At least I haven't been able to do it. It would be nice to have a bunch of versions available on Stardock Central. Moral of the story. If you have a new version and it is working well, archive it immediately. I archived 1.61. And it generates lots of habitable planets.
Glad to hear it! I'll try it soon.
