Oooh. I didn't know that. That sort of sucks. Sometimes if I haven't got the army or willpower to actually TAKE an enemie's planet, I like the option of making it worthless. Sort of a scorched earth program. Are you sure it's intentional that no damage is done to the planet if the invasion fails?

I am having a similar problem, but I don't know if it is with the manual. I can't run GC II from stardock, or from the Windows START menu. I have to go into the GCII folder and run it with the exe file that starts the game. (NOTE there are 2 exe files in the folder, one of them (the one that Windows tries to run from the start menu) does nothing, the other makes the game work.)) Pretty odd. I thought I would try this week's update and see if it self-corrects, and if not do

I *almost* built an Omega Defense System last night, then noticed the little explanation in the build window that said its benefit only applied to the planet it was built on. I vaguely remember the Omega Systems (of all sorts) in GC I applied their benefits to all of your worlds. Or am I confusing them with wonders? Is this a difference between the series, is my memory bad, or is there something wrong with the explanation in the GC II text? Thx.

GalCiv has always been a game where the larger capital ships didn't show up until much later in the game. So, if you're playing a medium galaxy or smaller, you probably won't get much higher than medium hulls. However, there is an option to start with all of the techs if that would fill your desire for mayhem.

I really don't understand the settings either. I finally foold around with it enough so that i get to see most of the battles in the cinematic style. Still, sometimes the battles are played out with a one-two shot from the main screen and one fleet or the other blows up.

I like to make a heavy fighter with weapons only. Needs to be cheap. The whole point of it is, I can rush-build one quick if I see a transport coming. I try to get one in orbit around all worlds ASAP. Generally at this point I have no real enemies, and it may not be clear yet which armor to focus on b/c I won't know yet what the opposing AI is using for weapons. As time goes on, I'll get better weapons and make a better weapons-only heavy fighter which I'll use as a true defender (in

I agree with Jefe. I don't understand why it is so easy for the invaders. However, I don't think it is reasonable for every citizen of a planet to be considered part of the defense either. (Remember the picture of the little Terran female with the stuffed representation of a Terran quadruped looking up into the burning eyes of a Drengin Terror-Trooper) Somehow I bet she went down real easy. And probably was tasty too. More realistic would be to say X% of a planet's population is its g

I tried a small galaxy with Drengin and Torians on NORMAL and found that to be a good beginner galaxy (for someone wanting an influence win). A good fight is a small galaxy with the Yor and the bug-aliens (sorry, don't remember their name). The bugs won't be too friendly with you (until the Yor are eating your mom) and the Yor will be invading before you can get a decent defence force built. In fact, in my game things are not looking too good for the Humans.

I've played through sandox mode twice now, both times with a small galaxy (5 X 5 I think) against the Drengin and Torians on Normal mode. I found that the two computer players both did the same thing both times, with a few exceptions. I was wondering if other's who had played this (default) sandbox game had experienced the same thing.... Drengin did not move quickly to grab colonies. Torians did. So did I. The result was the torians and I each had 5 or six planets and the

After playing a few games I grew tired of making my ships over again each game, or worse trying to remember what I need to research to get my corvette back in a new game. Here's a simple idea that works, maybe someone else will like it. For each type of ship you use (light fighter, heavy fighter, probe, corvette, cruiser, etc.) make a Mark 0 model that is the hull and bling ONLY. No components. Then, when you play another game you just have to pull up the Mark 0 shell and a

SPOILERS! Did anyone beat this on Normal or higher? I was rocking along, kickin bootay on all the usual suspects (Drengin, Yor), when this big red space squid shows up and drops 10 alien buttkickers on my planet. I drove them off, but they killed thousands! It was only after that I decided I'd better get moving, but too late. By the time I built some transports, a few heavy fighters and a couple of constructors (for starbases to extend my reach) there were squidleys all ove

I've not slept since Monday night. At my age, this is dangerous. I'm going to have to sleep now. Hopefully the Drengis won't come get my empire while I'm sleeping!

I've pretty much decided to try the campaign at NORMAL for now. This scenario pits you directly against the Drengin with no friends. The Drengin is was very slow getting a colony ship up, so I had taken all of the colonizable planets by the time he built one. That pretty much sums it up. Drengin - one planet. Me - 5 planets. d0omed Drengin. (He did make a nuisance of himself while I built up colonies by sending patrols around and blowing up my starbases. But once I got up and runnin

Hi! In another thread praising the quality of hte in-game music (which is super!) someone suggested they were going to add customer tunes to the game? Can we use our own MP3s or WAVs in the game? How? That is, what directory do we put them in and/or where is the playlist? I suck less at making my own music than I do at designing cool looking ships. Thanks.

First, for SD, a minor bug. Several times during the first mission in the campaign the Dregin mention the 'Acreans'. I thought they were Arcaens. No biggie, but maybe a fix for later when things quiet down. On to my experience... I played Beginner level, btw. The mission pits the human (me) and my so-called ally the Altarians against the Drengin. Each of us is in our seperate corner, with an unclaimed system in the middle with a class 10 planet and a few others of little n

As in all things in my life, my ships strongly follow the function over form philosophy. But I want them to look way cooler than they do. Will there be any help for aesthetically challenged shipyard crews? Thx

I know the fix for this is probably something obvious, but my space battles look like a jazzed up GalCiv I style battle. How do I view them in the way cool cinematic mode promised by the pre-release vids? Thx

I have a few questions to ask, and I'm sure they've already been asked somewhere. The forum is so cluttered up though, that it's hard to find information here. Would it be possible to get someone to categorize the posts asking questions about the game and gameplay by type? For example, if all of the questions about "When's the game coming out" were put in one file and all of the quesitons about "It doesn't work on my PC what's wrong?" got put in one file it would declutter the board to a great d

What's your favorite Galciv I strategy and will you try and adapt it to Galciv II? I generally either went the economy/influence route. That way I could keep up technologically by buying and trading techs and make an unstoppable economic engine. If I ever got in a war, I'd switch all my constructor production to the best ship availalbe and buy them to completion, making an instant fleet. I rarely took a planet by force. Invasion is such a messy business. Another strategy th
