Losing the land rush? Go to a smaller map ("small" or smaller) with no speed mod on the race, or use a speed +2 or speed +1 for the larger maps. That will help a lot. With the speed mod you will have to get use lower stats in other areas. This game is very well balanced so you will always have trade offs.

I did not want to start a new topic for this question, so I will ask it here since we might get a new feature in Nov ... I _thought_ we were going to get a environmental political group ... something like a small PQ bonus and then slowing watching the plant in crease in PQ because of the smart use of the planet. Any chance? :HOT: :HOT:
1) Everyone says expand as far as possible... but quite frankly, its impossible to expand past your home sector unless your playing on gigantic, as the AI will immediatly flip any planets that arent in your home sector, even if there nearest planet is 1000 sectors away (ok slight exaggeration, but i really cant get more than 1 or 2 sectors away even on huge without getting my planets flipped, even if the AI is about 8 sectors away.)
I sure did notice that even on Cripple

I have not seen a thread along this nature, so I want to thank from the bottom of my expansionist heart all involved with GC. I must admit a certain amount of concern has verions 1.04 - 5 were very unstable for me (and others apparently after reading the board). BUT, the expansion pack is a solid grand slam I-hope-you-sell-a-million of them improvement. Not only is the game stable but the additions make the game very enjoyable. I even enjoy the cheats! While some may look down at that c

Yea ... the AI is the best there is in this Genra (SP?) I played my first 1.1 game last night and noticed even more "little things" for the more serious. Play on any level from "I dare you to lose" to well ... the last level describes itself. :d :d

Dang ... woke up early and thought for sure I could avoid the crowded server slashdot affect and get the update at 3:00 am pacific. But alas, its not up. Heck its 6:00 back on the right coast ... whats up with that? LOL LOL :::yawn:::

Cotal ... GalCiv is on my XP Pro machine 2.24 gig 120 gig hd and 768 ram. That is the machine that the CTD keeps happening. Alpha is being played on the oldest of old 98 machines. (And yes, it has all the updates - MS still has the windows update site for 98. That computer does one thing - Play alpha). But that was my point. Gal Civ is the ONLY program I have problem with on my XP box and it is fair to say that a lot of people have CTD's but because the game is so fun t

You guys talk about this as if its normal ... the CTD is ruining the game for me. I have a pretty new Dell with very little software on it and what is on it is very main stream commerical stuff. Gal Civ is the only exe which has problems. I am faced with the fact that I love the game, but it simply does not work as it should. Right next to this box is a P1 233MMX running a fresh install of 98 with a whole 96 meg of ram. Im playing Alpha Centauri on it which is a lot more fun than a cr

Let me ask this to confirm what I think ... The social or military spending NOT SPENT does not add up to a plenet spending. IE... I have ten planets 9 are not building and one is, do that 9 add production not used and give it to the one? :notsure:

I played a tiny galaxy game with no CTD. Then in a small game and it crashed. :( About a month ago sent in two Smart exceptions reports, but have not heard anything,so I went so far as to wipe the HD and now have a fresh updated XP install with very little on the drive. However, I do have both winDVD and winamp. Is there anything that can be done to see if my circumstance is conntected to the multimedia programs? (:( Will the expansion pac fix the crashing?<

"(well I attempt to but DSL has an annoying habit of logging people off when they least expect it which is why I tried an endless ping session)" Not all DSL does that by the way ... you have a PPPOE ADSL which so over sells the switch bandwidth to keep the price down. There are dedicated SDSL and IDSL lines which are just that, dedicated. Just FYI. :)

I will take a shot at this one... The expansion pack will be free when it is done. If you want to play a beta and just not drool on the window, then become a member of the derigeon (sp) network. There is a cost to the network, I think the cost is $20. I personally am waiting, but understand why others are not. Since the polls are just NOW asking about ship editors, I doubt if it will show up on the expansion pack due "late summer" this year which should mean before 9/22, si

I was actually hurt by Moo3. Something is wrong when you spend half your time figuring out to tell the AI, "Enough transports already..." At the core of Moo 3 is a good game. GalCiv is a GREAT game and will probably be played for years. Because of GalCiv, both Moo2 and Moo3 are no longer on my HD. ;)
Then reload the game and start again, colonizing a sub-Earth PQ planet of your choice. Try keeping pace with the income/morale/spending/build rates established in your first try. You will immediately see that you can only support the colony by decreasing Earth's settings below optimum values, i.e., by "devaluing" Earth, your strongest starting asset.
Hence a very good tatic is to colonize sub PQ's then give them to the AI's. I hope that still works in 1.05. :notsure:
Llaamaboy: You'll only see the beta of the expansion pack if you have a drengin.net serial registered with Stardock Central. 1.05 shouldn't be causing these affects. It sounds like you're having a problem with your drivers. Have you recently installed any new drivers? Or Winamp3 or a program like WinDVD?
Thanks for the input. No to all the above. Got 1.05 and things started to happen. But, since then, have upgraded to no MS Nvidia driver - and it seem to get worse
