Bug Reports for 1.05 (put expansion pack bug reports in the other thread)

If you have bugs in Gal Civ to report in version 1.05, you can post them here.  Hopefully it'll keep both bug report threads a little cleaner. :)

I basically have two minor bugs and then one that causes the game to crash. I am not shown visuals for my starbases or my dreaghtnoughts. Next I have extensive intelligence on the Drengin and whenever I go the view all their routes the game crashes

UP event voting for the Humans to give up 5% of their income shows up on the UP screen as Arceans giving up 5%.

I played a tiny galaxy game with no CTD. Then in a small game and it crashed.
:(
About a month ago sent in two Smart exceptions reports, but have not heard anything,so I went so far as to wipe the HD and now have a fresh updated XP install with very little on the drive.

However, I do have both winDVD and winamp. Is there anything that can be done to see if my circumstance is conntected to the multimedia programs?

(:(

Will the expansion pac fix the crashing?

I've seen different parts of the following bug posted in different threads. I think there was a small mention of it in here.
It's the reload bug.
At first I thought things were happening that I just didn't notice previously. Then I noticed it was things happening incorrectly.
The most common posted reference is that influence/culture gets reset when you load a game.
A major bug with loading a game is sometimes the AI automatically builds something major like a trade good or wonder. Yesterday I started a game and decide it was too late to play to much so I saved and closed down. Next day I started playing and remembered I forgot to do something and so I reloaded back to that previous save and the AI instantly built a trade good. Reloaded again and didn't happen and another AI built it a couple years later. Sometimes if you reload, an AI will instantly demand tribute.
I've also seen other people mention things happening on reloads.
I hate leaving a game going when I go to bed but then I equally hate knowing that buy closing the game and coming back later that the AI will get a benifit which is harsh when I'm already getting beat up while playing at a hard level.

Similar to my earlier one above.

The UP resolution came up to vote whether Humans should give up 3% of their income for 3 years. The resolution passed but when I looked at the UP page, it shows Arceans giving up 5%.

fanjer: the show trade routes button is part of the expansion pack, and shouldn't have gotten into 1.05.

reloading GC will often fix the invisible ships bug.

I just got a Galciv.exe crash. Had smart exception on.
Now what?

It saved the CRA file to my documents. Can't open anything else up (IE the stuff ppl usually copy/paste when using this thing).

New bug for me.

I play this game on three computers (work, home, and laptop).

On my home machine which i just installed, the mini-map does not chow all the sector influence when that option is selected. Some of the Altarians is shown, but I don't have any coloring for myself or the other races. Some sectors have well over 2000 influence.

Any thoughts?

I just had an incredible ai Torian kill itself outright for no good reason:
I offered peace in order to see if I could extort a planet out of them. I could. In fact they gave me ALL their planets in exchange for peace.
Sure, I was stronger than them. Sure, I had HUGE diplomatic skills (all the techs but Final Frontier + diplomatic translators + +20 political party + +60race pick). Sure, I was allied with the Arceans who could crush the whole galaxy if they wanted to considering their military might must be about 100 times the combined might of all the other races.
Still, they wiped themselves out for peace. This shouldn't happen.

I found a minor anoyance. I am not sure if it is a bug or intentional.

On the planet screen. When you purchase an item, or have completed and selected a new item to build, and hit the next button it doesn't always advance to the next planet. Sometimes I have to click next 2 or more times. Additionally it seems to make the rounds of some of my planets twice before it gets to "done".

One more thing. When you purchase a planetary improvement item to build it disappears from the list, and from the build box. It always disappeared from the list of items to build, but now it disappears from both.

Ever since I put in an Audigy2 sound card, I get some hangs in the trading screen. I know it's probably the sound card and not the game because other games have developed peculiarities at the same time. Grrr...

May have been reported earlier, but just in case:

1. Terror Stars and fleets grouped together with Terror Stars do nothing when you click Skip (remaining moves) at the end of the turn. You can click skip forever and nothing happens. If you want to keep the TS where it is you have to physically issue to it back and forth move orders until it runs out of moves. Again, skipping does not work.

2. May be a "feature" but feels like a real bug:

Once grouped with a Terror Star fleet has double the moves. Here's how it works. Select TS, move over a fleet (or vice versa), click the fleet merging icon. Issue the TS a move order. Say, it goes 10 squares. Once the TS runs out of moves the fleet attached to it is highlited and it still has all of its moves available.

Now, this would not be a problem, but if you issue a TS fleet a far away waypoint the fleet will not travel with the TS, it always jumps ahead of it leaving the TS unprotected. Funny how clicking on the TS teleports the fleet back to it. May be just a graphical glitch but it is very confusing and ANNOYING.

I think my first post explained the problem poorly. Here's a more detailed version.

(I posted this in "what you would like to see in x-pack forum" but posting it here too, just in case)

Problem:

Say you have 10 fleets. They are spread out all over the map and they all have move orders. They are going to far away destinations on autopilot.

Say you want to break several of these fleets into two (or more) fleets each and change their move orders. Most of the time, when you try to do this, the game does not let you finish with all the ships in the same sector and it jumps to another fleet and insists that you issue orders to a different fleet before you are done with the first fleet.

Specific example:

I have 3 ships on "Guard" next to Earth. Earth has just finished producing a new ship. While I am in the Earth screen and I have these two fleets in front of me I want to be able to give orders to both of them.

I want to

1. Separate one of the three guarding ship, move it one square, merge it with the new ship. (now I have 2 fleets of 2 ships each instead of 1 and 3 each)

2. Tell one of the fleets to continue to Guard next to Earth.

3. Send the second fleet elsewhere.

This is IMPOSSIBLE TO DO. The game has its own idea about which ship's turn it is to move and (in the above example) if the new ship and the 3 guarding ships are NOT next to one another in that sequence issuing them orders is a NIGHTMARE.

Solution: Prevent the game from jumping from fleet to fleet automatically. Instead, add a "Next" button. This way the game will stay on the same screen/sector as long as you need it to. You will be able to do whatever you want with the ships on that screen and WHEN YOU ARE DONE with all of them, you will click "Next" and only then jump to another fleet. Otherwise it is MADDENING. It is very hard to track where on a (huge) map you were and remembering what you wanted to do with which fleet when you have a couple of dozens.

LoL! Do you still have a job now? :)

Anyway,
It seems to me that the scoring is screwed up when taking into account yours and the AI's alignment. I like to make to the game harder by playing a 1v5 or 2v4 type of game. I do this by playing as pure evil and setting the other ai's to the opposite alignment. This invariably makes the game harder especially if you play evil vs all good. However, the scoring seems to PENALIZE you for having that many pure good AI's. It only seems to do this if you play evil vs all good. When I play in this manner, im getting about 33% less points than a standard alignment game. That makes no sense.

Please review the way you figure alignment into the scoring.

Drat. Didn't seem to work. I must have driver issues, or something. Maybe there's a hardware conflict.

I was playing a game where I had about 10 rangers in a fleet with a terror star to keep it same, and sometimes I could move the t-star 8 times, which is was the same as my rangers at the time if they weren't in the fleet. It would say that it had 8/1 moves. Sure made wiping out planets a lot faster! But it's not exactly the way it's supposed to be.

That's the known terror star movement bug, lawnmowerman. If you don't want to exploit it, don't fleet ships with Terror Stars.

hi,

i dunno whether this is a bug or a feature, but my battleships are sort of invisible to me. they seem to have no icon/graphic perhaps. on the main screen, where i click on my ships and fleet and give orders to them.

i have no clue whether this was caused by 1.05 or the bonus pack. ive updated via stardock (and bought in a local shop) the game today.

sorry if im posting in the wrong thread. hope im not :)

I the scrolling mechanism for the main star display completely sucks. It doesn't work reliably and it requires me to run my optical mouse repeatedly to get the stupid thing to actually scroll. Frankly I think this is just utterly beyond idiotic.

I'm at a loss as to why I cannot set more parameters for starting a game when the game is single player only. Frankly I can't see why there aren't more options to begin with single player or multi. Specifically I'd like to be able to set parameters for the starting world and distance between races.

The scroll bar used to load a colony ship becomes totally useless when loading at a developed star system with a large population. The minimum amount allowed by the scroll bar becomes many times what I want to load. In some specific instances I want to only load a specific number, say 150, and in order to do this I have to repeatedly click on the arrow. I.e. the scroll bar becomes irrelevant. Not an impressive design choice.

I'm a bit of a micromanager and I find it irritating that there isn't a production queue mechanism. This makes building specific number of ships of a specific type at a specific world an exercise in futility. Please no gratuitous comments of "why would you want to". The purpose of an interface is to perform the tasks required as the users desires it to be done. This interface does not come even close to that description. And no, the govenor lists do not accomplish what I want.

There's no reasonable method of financial planning or management. The game includes the functionality of leases, yet it doesn't include even the minimum interface code to manage those leases. So you know how much the leases are going to cost you NOW but not next turn. You don't know when some are going to expire and what your liability will be in 25 turns. An irritating deficiency.

I can't say that I'm overly impressed by the trade mechanism. It's seems like a lot of work for a rather miniscule amount. Perhaps if you organized the entire race to optimize trade it would work, but it would still require a massive amount of research and resources to pull it off. Even then there is the likelyhood that whomever you're trading with would either be conquered or would conquer you. If your experience is different, congratulations, but I don't see the point of investing so much effort in it.

Ok. So why can't I set multiple waypoints for ships?

There's a heckuva lot more complaints but I'll wait and see if there are any reasonable responses/changes made. Frankly this could be a pretty decent game, but it suffers from what can only be described as "fanboi fever". This is where people who are predisposed to love a game are recruited as testers. The same effect is seen in business software where the same set of testers are used to the point where the testers become proficient enough that they can bypass the negative aspects of a poor interface.

about my invisible battlesips: ive loaded the game again, and now i can see my battlesip. :)
its still a bug, but now i know how to 'fix' it myself.
just wanted to let you know.
