Well, all that does is just download the patch. You need to actually install it. Or just use Stardock Central, click the update button next to Gal Civ 2 and it will do all the work of dowloading and installing for you.

In a fleet of 4 ships I'll have 3 high attack no defense ships and one ship with high defense and low attack. Combined it may give me a 20 attack and 5 defense lets say. Even that 5 defense against the right weapon really helps you survive, especially if you attack first.

Yep, fast transports with advanced troop modules. The core ship of this for me is my "Invader Cruiser" which can carry 3000 troops and goes 7 pc I think. If the problem is running out of population for troops then you need to build another farm or two to bump that population up. I usually have at least 2, sometimes 3 planets with the capcity for 20-30 billion because of several farms. Between times for transports being built they have usually grown back the 3000 troops I used in the last one

You should have Stardock Central installed. If not, do so. Then register the game in there. Then you simply just click on Galactic Civ 2 and if there is an update available you click the Update button next to it and it does all the work and will tell you when it's done.

Ok, I'm big on research. My slider is usually at at least 40% the entire game. Normal was nearly impossible to keep up with technology-wise. Challenging is just impossible. Not sure what you're talking about here (and I've seen other posts on it as well). I play on Challenging and I rarely run research above 30% and I'm right up there in tech

Remember that you can "focus" your planet to building something as well. This is done by going to the planet screen and up top are the 3 boxes for spending, click the icon in the upper right portion of the box and it will highlight the box and focus on that. So if my planet doesn't have any buildings to build then I'll focus on Manufacturing (if I'm building ships) or Research if it's a research planet. Then I'm hardly wasting anything in social production. It's a workaround anywa

Click on your transport ship. Right click the planet in question to move it to the planet (as you did with your attack ships to take out defending ships). If the planet has the shield icon in the lower right then you didn't take out all the orbital defense ships yet so you'll need to do that first. FYI that there is a PDF of the manual installed with the game so you can print that if you'd like.

Got mine today as well (CE upgrade from TGN). I feel all warm and fuzzy knowing that mine might have actually been packed up by Frogboy or Cari Elf (or any number of other famous Stardockians). Hey Frogboy, can I stop by the office and get mine signed by you?

Yes, the latest patch is all rolled up into the Bonus Pack. Perhaps you missed the "YES this is the Friday first update!" listed there. Or you can just use Stardock Central and it will update your files for you with no worries about if you are getting the right versions or not.

Pretty low priority obviously but I was wondering why I'm not seeing any medals for myself in the forums? I've submitted 2 games so far to the Metaverse and I'm not having any other account troubles. Thanks!

i think putting this on sdc would solve all this confusion. Frankly their decision to not have it there to make it faster and avoid confusion is just causing more of it. They should just put patches and updates on sdc like they've always done. Its what we've come to expect. At the very least if they are going to have it downloaded from the site as this is, then it should

Here are the steps that should reproduce it. GNN informed me a new ship being built. So I click the GoTo button. I then enter the ShipBuilder as I had also just gotten a new tech a couple turns earlier. So I design a ship, choose a name and hit save and the popup (to enter a description) doesn't appear. Argggg. So I try again and no poup. Try several times to no avail. So I finally exit and it takes me back to GNN news report. I close that and now I see that popup to

I've already realized the value of those class 5 worlds and specializing them for specific tasks. Couple example from my game last night: 1) Colonized a class 7 world in a system. Nothing special about it actually but I planned to build more influence related buildings on it since it was smack dab in the middle of the galaxy. Also in the system was a class 5 planet. I eventually colonized it as well and it had a manufacturing bonus tile. So I decide to try to make this a s

I guess my question is... if the game is in stores today... why did I bother to pre-order if I have to wait until the afternoon to have the game... when I can easily drive to my local gaming store and pick up a copy?... If, of course, the game ISN'T on the shelves today... then by all means disregard this ridiculous question... if not... umm... why did I pre-order? </T

If you buy directly from Stardock you can download the game the minute it's released tomorrow. In fact, you can pre-download 99% of the game right now and only need to download a couple files tomorrow to make it active so you can play. If you orded the CD version from Stardock then that will be shipped to you separately. Or if you ordered the electronic version only through Stardock then using Stardock Central you can simply "archive" the game and burn that archive to a CD and t

Beta 3, just gave it a good hour test run and everything looks and runs great so far. I really like the following on the main interface: Current research to the left. All the planet info including what ship is being build and starport button. What I find missing here for planet info is what is the current social build and turns left. Could be a line item right below the current ship build. This I think would allow most info at your fingertips without having to o

So you have TGN.net and 10 tokens but what do you do with them? What games to get? Well my suggestion is Xeno Assault II. Holy cow is this game cool and kicks arss! You can try the demo first but this is a classic arcade shooter like Galaga. It really is cool and I went ahead and plopped down 2 whole tokens in support of this small company and bought their game. I've played it for hours already. Try it out!

I was about to post to ask what video cards you guys have. I see *tons* of stars in the starfield. In fact with the newest beta I actually see a few *above* the galactic plane which is even cooler. Radeon 9800 Pro here.

I think it's fine to bring up the colonize screen right away. Most "civ" type games do this so it's a natural thing to do. However I think a decent alternative as Drachir says is to have a special colonize icon drop down the left side for each planet that was colonized or invaded as a reminder (and shortcut) to do this.

Thanks Boogie! As for moon bases. I could see a couple ways to do it off the top of my head. For any planet with a colony on there *and* that has a moon that is rocky, perhaps a +xx% bonus to production which would simulate a "mining bonus". If the moon is habitable you could go as simple as adding X amount of workable tiles to the colony *or* you could have a small extra tile section on the colony screen for it's satellite (no more then 6 tile

.12 loaded and a few thoughts. Really like the config program. Framerates have really gone up for me. Where I had 65-70 before I now have 90+. Love the new moon graphics. Couple ideas: 1) How about habital moons or ability to mine moons for minerals or something? So maybe you have a gas giant with 0 tiles but maybe that little moon is Endor and has 5 squares. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/smiles/Smile.gif" border=0 ALIGN="abs

I was so excited to load up the game the first day the beta came out. In fact I renewed TG.Net that day. My wife knew I was looking forward to it so she watched while I loaded it up. We were both blown away by the graphics. The rotating worlds, moons going around the planets *with* realistic shadows in relation to the sun. Amazing. I really like the way the game starts out now in that I can see a couple closeby systems and already have planets that I c
