Galactic Civilizations II: v1.0D1 Available

The first update

We've released our first update to Galactic Civilizations II.  This update includes a number of playability tweaks, user requested UI changes, and of course some bug fixes as well.

Because it's Friday and we wanted to get this up as quickly and painlessly as possible can, we have teamed up with Cachefly to put the update on there to ensure very fast downloads no matter where you live.  It's NOT available on Stardock Central, we'll do that on Monday when the IT people are all here.

NOTE: If you were in the beta, you may need to get your final game serial #. Go HERE and type in your email address and it will email your serial #.

im so confused i dl the game digitally can i still get this? Do i have a special edition serial somewhere?

strange.... the Stardock version is written to be 1.0D0 and the link where to download the patch leads to a complete donwload of the 25MB bonus pack as "GC2's latest versions". Is it me or it looks anormal in both cases?

o i see so i have re download the bonus pack and then re activate it?

yes fuzzymatrix it looks the same to me too.

Looks the same to me too; I am also confused Sorry for the headache Frogboy but can you clarify when you are able? Sorry mate!

The Bonus Pack and Patch are combined into a single download.

If you purchased by DL, put your serial number into the the blank where it asks for your CE serial number. That should get you into the download page.

Kinda odd that this isn't available via SDC and the whole process is a bit confusing.

My question is, are old saved games compatible with the changes?

Yeah, I have posted this about an hour ago, but is it ok to download the patch even if I've already downloaded the bonus pack? I ask this because the patch also includes the bonus pack. Thanks!

Yeah, the SDC was the first place I looked at for updates to the game... currently it still has the older version.

Yes.

I loaded a saved game and have played several turns without any problem.

None of my serial numbers are working, and I seem to get a different one each time I request it, and stardock doesn't seem to update on it's own like with GC1, so what do I do?

mondov: I fixed you up. You're all set.

i think putting this on sdc would solve all this confusion. Frankly their decision to not have it there to make it faster and avoid confusion is just causing more of it. They should just put patches and updates on sdc like they've always done. Its what we've come to expect. At the very least if they are going to have it downloaded from the site as this is, then it should be as a seperate stand alone download. Not combined into something that I have already downloaded. It just confuses people, and I don't want to download a redundant update. I won't download as it is. Hopefully it'll come on sdc soon.

Initial Impressions of the patch -

Well after 30 seconds of play my impressions are the patch is outstanding !

So how can I say this after 30 seconds? Because I loaded 2 games that previously ended up crashing the next time the end turn button was pressed no matter what.

The only thing thats different now when I load the saves is that a race I have been at war with for a long time offers peace as soon as the save loads, (have reloaded 5 times to see and they offer it right away) So it could be that the end turn crash (or to be more specific just as the new turn would be starting) was caused by the fact that the AI was trying to offer me peace and something was broken in the processes causing the crash. *shrug*

Will start a new game now of course to run things through clean and see how it goes but looking good so far. Thanks devs.

I keep trying to download the patch - I keep getting serial number errors. I was able to download the bonus content no problems why is the patch being such a problem?

I tried putting my serial number in to download the update, but it keeps telling me "Error 3: Serial Number Is Not Registered To This Account" eve though this is the only account I have, and I have verified my e-mail twice, and registered GC2 through SDC about 10 minutes ago. Let me know what I can do to get this patch.

Did you not read the main post? All the IT guys that can put it in SDC have long gone home, it is Friday night after all. It will be put up there Monday. But Frogboy and the developers wanted to get it out there for us for the weekend so they hooked up with cachefly so that their web server wouldn't get pounded into the dust so that we can have it now. I really don't know what your problem is. Just download it. If you don't want to and want to wait then do that. No biggy.

And for everyone, I don't understand the overall confusion. *It's a patch*. You simply install it. Just like every other game ever released in the past 2 decades.

obviously i didn't read that part. No need to have a fit, it was a misunderstanding

Found the problem to my serial number problem. Go to the main site and have your numbers resent - I only had my temp code from the beta not the serial for the final
Reply #23 Top
Heck I'm getting sent serial #s that don't work either. I also had the beta.
Where do I resend my serial #? I'm getting Error 3 Serial # not registered to this account. I did not beta or preorder. I bought the digital download yesterday and registered it in SDC. Frustrating

SlackerJer, you have two accounts listed. The one you have and the ucsavis.edu one. It is that one that has GalCiv II set up.  I'd merge them but I'm not sure the best route to do that because you'd lose one of the email addresses and could make things worse.
