game is still crashing sometimes when you try to upgrade a ship in the ship yard. i should say crashes to desk top. this seems to happen mostly when i hit the defense button. The game always crashes the first time I switch to another tab, that's usually weapons.
Do you run in windowed mode?

Small hulls make for okay deterrence. You can produce them fast to inflate your military score and thus discourage war.
Siege is an easy one to win. I rushed to planetary invasions and took out their one world very early. Apocalypse is where I stalled. Everything I tried ended up with the Dread Lords destroying all my ships and invading my worlds. Plus, when looking up strategies here, I read that Apocalypse tends not to complete when played in DA.
I've had in excess of 10,000 BC treasurires in several beta games and haven't noticed much of a tax hit at 5 and 10k. I guess it encourages you to start buying stuff, though, which is probably a good thing. What I really need is a larger navy so I have less excess. :)
Oh, damnit. Why didn't anyone tell me about this? So I can safely ignore these wild swings? I go through binges and purges, too. I'll spend down to a few thousand BC and then build it back up. I'll try spending down to see if that clears this up.
I'm having the same problem with disruptors,I get the sound effects but no grafix. I also noticed the same problem occured when the Acreans researched doom rays. Usually when a battle starts with a ship with these techs the game stalls and won't end turn.
I've had this problem too. At first, I thought it was the nightmare torpedoes that I was using, but the ships I was fighting had Doom Rays.
Wait, crashes in the technology researched screen? Which race, and which tech caused the crash? And what about the other crash, when you were about to win?
My economic experience with the Altarians has been fairly weird. I'm not building and using hundreds of constructors every turn, nor am I constantly losing trade routes. But my economy will go from deeply in the green (1500 or more net income) to deeply in the yellow (1000 or more net loss) from one week to the next. I haven't built lots of high maintenance buildings, I haven't changed my tax rate, my approval hasn't dropped. It's so high I can tax my population at 100% and all my planets will s
Sorry gang...we'll try the squash this one early Monday.
I was hoping you'd say this! :) Thank you.
PeskyFly, the Altarian economy in TA is not like the Altarian economy in DA. It's not bad, but it takes a bit more work than in DA. dfalken, more details, please?
I haven't yet. I thought I had once, but I discovered it was just because I had like 40 constructors en route to various locations, and it ended fairly quickly.
Thank you much. I should actually post about this in more depth with screenshots. I am doing it correctly and something's failing when I click "Apply" in the properties dialogue box.
You could've saved yourself about 30 minutes by just using cheats and gifting a ton of transports to the enemy... and yes, it does crash, even in the most simplistic game. I just cheated up to Transports, teleported to my neighbor, gifted him a transport and then declared war on him, he instantly tried to invade Dratha IV and *crash* <IMG id=ImageResize_Image_4 src="http://images.stardock.com/smiles/BigSmile.gif" onload=ImageResizer.createOn(this); align=absMiddle borde
The Thalans are a joke now. Thier super abailty is useless with no factories.
What? They have factories. Very expensive factories, but factories nevertheless. Considering how cheap they are to make, I believe their super ability is functioning properly in this regard. The real problem is not noticing the maintenance cost and building too many... not that I did that. Once.
So I tried to see if I could get a crash by forcing an invasion. I started the Dread Lords campaign, set the difficulty to challenging (which before has managed to get me invaded as soon as the Drengin builds some transports. I let it run until I was sick of the turn button, and the Drengin did nothing but build ships and immediately destroy any ships that the Altarians or I built. I even gave him all the technology I researched, but he just sat there with his four worlds and refused to invade.<
It's been explained before that you don't actually kill all of the population on the planet when you conquer it, you simply smash all resistance. Of course, spore ships really do kill everyone.
... I always assume that people did that. Too trusting! How would one download and install TA without having things properly registered, though?
Sorry, I specifically meant the Good and Evil line, which has several improvements and a few bonuses.
The Altarians could use a few more alignment techs, and they don't get access to any of the standard good, evil, or neutral techs. I realize they're still under construction, but you only get additional techs if you pick "Good." I think the weapon and defense techs open up normally for evil and good respectively. I know I have access to the defense techs, at least. Just no "Good and Evil."
I think there's only one spot to look at. You might have to open a ticket with technical support at this point.
Another weird one: I clicked on a Yor colony ship to see its movement rate, to see if it would beat my colony ship to a planet both were aiming for. After doing so, I went to buy a colony ship, and the colony ship I wanted to buy was replaced with a Yor colony ship: It's not even the one I clicked on, which was using the Constructor hull.
Altarian Tech: Paradise Worlds. It's supposed to provide +10 planet quality. What it does instead is update your worlds' rated PQ, but does not actually make more tiles available. Maybe it would be appropriate for GCII to pop up a dialogue telling you that you now have a duplicate super project and you need to pick one to demolish.
Try: Tools > Settings, click on "Internet," and then "Refresh XML data." If that doesn't help, try changing servers from the same menu.
