I can't guarantee it will work. You might want to make sure you wipe the directories after unintalls, too. Plus don't run Stardock until after you've patched to 1.02... Believe me, I was surprised when it fixed the problem. Worst case scenario is that you'll just have to stick to 1.02 at work. Not too terrible a fate. :)

Paguma, I had this problem as well. This is what I did: 1) Uninstall GalCiv 2) Uninstall Stardock Central 3) Reinstall Galciv 4) Reinstall Stardock Central 5) Manually download and install the v1.02 patch & bonus pack from the Downloads section of this site 6) Reboot 7) Run Stardock Central and it should now be able to update GalCiv to 1.03A I don't know why this fixed the problem for me... but it did!

Do the mining (social & military) upgrades give their bonuses to all planets in the sector, or just planets to which they're directly adjacent? I'm a little cunfused because the description of the economic upgrade that adds to social and military production specifically says it's a sector-wide benefit, whereas the mining upgrades do not, as far as I can see.
Personally I'd just be happy with a hotseat option. Oh, and I agree that the major factor working against MOO3, re: finding a MP game, is NOT the genre. It's the fact that the game isn't very good yet.

Just an added note, I've tried updating a few times and it always seems to have trouble in the same spot.
Previously, I've had no trouble updating the game using SDC. Rush buying planet quality improvements (on newly colonized 13's and 14's) is also extremely important, especially if the I-League exists in the game.
