Can I install GalCiv on more than one computer?

I was wondering, because I brought it in to work so I could play at lunch hour or after work, but when I connect to Stardock it doesn't upgrade properly. The status starts going nuts, and counting beyond 100% complete, and then eventually fails. The end of the log reads as follows:

...
Extract File: C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\temp\Base\Gfx\polpartylogos\Technologists_Small.pc_
Result: Success
Extract File: C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\temp\Base\Gfx\polpartylogos\WarParty_Large.pc_
Result: Success
Extract File: C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\temp\Base\Gfx\polpartylogos\WarParty_Small.pc_
Result: Success
Extract File: C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\temp\Base\Gfx\domestic.mt_
Result: Failed (deleted file)
Installation aborted (failed)

At home I have WinXP, at work I have Win2000 if that makes a difference. I can send the whole log if that helps, but it doesn't have any other failures.

Whatever your problem is isn't some sort of weird Stardock copy protection. I have installed it on my desktop and my laptop and had no issue. I know I've also reinstalled Object Desktop multiple times between OS upgrades, hard drive upgrades, etc. and have never had a problem.

Now, if your serial# and account password started hitting their servers with a few thousand installs in the space of a few weeks they might cut you off, but that doesn't sound like it's the case here :D

Paguma, I had this problem as well. This is what I did:

1) Uninstall GalCiv
2) Uninstall Stardock Central
3) Reinstall Galciv
4) Reinstall Stardock Central
5) Manually download and install the v1.02 patch & bonus pack from the Downloads section of this site
6) Reboot
7) Run Stardock Central and it should now be able to update GalCiv to 1.03A

I don't know why this fixed the problem for me... but it did!

Now that my wierd problem with SDC hating my Squid proxy server has been figured out, I haven't had any problems. I have GalCiv installed on all three of my Windows (2x Win2k, 1x WinXP Pro)machines at home, in a shared folder on the server no less! This way all my savegames are available to all machines. I have to run SDC on each machine before I play and make completely sure that all the machines are running the same galciv build, but it works fine. You should have no problems whatsoever.

I have even come close to getting it running under Linux using Wine. I can get SDC working under Wine (though not stable yet). And it runs pretty well under Win2k on VMWare with Linux as the host machine (but you have to use DX8.1, not DX9).

Michael,

I did all that except the reboot. What the heck, I'll uninstall and try all over again with the reboot, just in case.

I can't guarantee it will work. You might want to make sure you wipe the directories after unintalls, too. Plus don't run Stardock until after you've patched to 1.02...

Believe me, I was surprised when it fixed the problem. Worst case scenario is that you'll just have to stick to 1.02 at work. Not too terrible a fate. :)

No luck. It was worth a try.

I guess I'll wait for the standalone versino of 1.03, and just use 1.02 in the meantime. I'm pretty sure it's a problem with Stardock not GalCiv. While downloading galciv.ex_ it just seems to go nuts, and downloads data 5-10 times more than the size of the file, and then goes wonky.
