I have to disagree. I have found armed transports to have many uses depending on the hull used to design it.

Plus, when I design the ships, all I do is double-click on the items I want to add. I pay absolutely no attention to how the ship looks. Geez, I'm boring. Its actually very fun to watch a ship that you have designed yourself, looking all cool and into a battle.
Mine are like WW2 ship names. For example, I name battleships after a state, cruisers after a city and destroyers after a hero. Non-combat ships I name different... alot of times I will use something like Twilight Endevor for a colony ship or I will do something like Twilight Florida for a battleship for flavor. So alot of times instead of just using the state name by itself, I will add Twilight, Andromeda, or Orion in with it for example. Usually sounds pretty good for a ship name. Like the big
I wish reviewers and a handful of players too will give this multiplayer crap a rest. First off, who has time to play a game like this multiplayer?? Come on people, its not a game for multiplayer, forget it we don't need it. How many people actually play games like this multiplayer?? Go ahead, do a poll and you will see probably 10% that do, if that much. Why oh why do all the trouble and work to put multiplayer in a game like this just to please a tiny percent of people that complain... oh... n

Citizen Corinthian, are you to a point where you can beat GalCiv2 everytiime on the highest level? What about scores? Alot of times, I just play games like this on a normal to just above normal level and I will try to beat my score and do better each game, even if I win most of the time. That said, I find this game to be extremely challenging, especially if you do this with the scoring like I do.
Croc411, I really like those ships, very creative. I have made some myself that remind me of those designs, especially that construction ship with the cranes on it. Why don't you upload these in a pack, I would like to have them.
Well as far as I am concerned, it should be in the top 10, the game is that good and yes people are recommending it. Also, I think stardock now has all of the MOO community over here because GalCiv2 is a better game, simple as that. Not to mention it has MUCH better graphics and 3D at that. People have to agree, those graphics look pretty and get more sales so more people will pick up a copy. Kind of like women (and us guys too just ask your wife or girlfriend, not to mention cats and dogs too),
I had no idea, I thought Brad was the lead developer. Just proof that a female can indeed make an excellent game. Certainly not the only one though, there is another female over at MadDoc that worked on most of the programming for Empire Earth II, good looking girl too.
You might want to check out your comp. Not saying it sucks or you don't know what your doing, but you will be surprised. Theres alot, in fact several things that can cause an application or game to crash and more times then not, its not the game itself. There could very well be a background application or process causing issues just to name only a couple. I been playing GalCiv2 on a newer laptop and I never had a crash before, not even in v1.0 or any of the beta patches. I disable norton interne
Auran does the same thing with Trainz Railroad Simulator 2006, and trust me it works better then any copy protection I ever seen. Heck look at Microsoft now with Windows XP. Also, I computer nowdays without an internet connection is like a car without an engine.
Certainly is a cool idea, but as mentioned it will make the game more complex. I think the more complex a game becomes, the less effective the AI becomes.
In the furture, I agree, maybe there will be oceans again who knows. When earth is destroyed by man (probably) or a natural disaster we have to go somewhere right? Mars may possibly be our only hope in the future for the survival of mankind as we know it. Earth won't be here forever, eventually we have to get off which is why the space program is so significant.
When I create a custom race and reset the abilities, I always start with 6% logistics. I imagine that is how it is supposed to work? Since you can't select logistics as an ability a custom race will always start with 6% logistics?
You can also give them high tech ships, then it will be easier to get them to declare war on an enemy of yours because they now have powerful ships.
Another example I can add of why this is the best space tbs game... in another game I was playing as the dregins, I spotted an ai colony ship headed to a system I have not explored yet. It had about 200 colonists on it. Being the evil race I was, I knew I was playing this one in a war style. So I decided I had to stop this colony ship at all costs, no matter what I did not want it setting up another colony anywhere. So after brainstorming, I figured out how I could do it. First the ships I had n
It seems like the more I play GalCiv2 the better it gets! For example, I have been playing smaller galaxies, I decided to get crazy and start a gigantic galaxy a week ago. Just by doing this, its like everything has changed, it makes a huge difference. I have been seeing different kinds of planets I have never seen before as far as visually and classes. Another thing is, I have been having to design ships with stacks of sensors and engines just to get around and see this massive galaxy. So if yo
Once you research the planetary invasion tech, a troops module will also become available. I recommend designing your own troop transport instead of using the core one. I very rarely build any of the core ships since you can do alot better designing ships to custom fit a situation.
I already recommended this great game to several people. A friend of mine just bought the collector's edition copy at best buy last week. He really likes this game!
Those are excellent ads! Put it this way, if I never knew anything about the game and seen all of that in a magazine, it would make me buy it.
heres one Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Link Link Truely an amazing game from what I have read and seen on the net, but keep in mind, that is not a strategy game.
I also have to disagree with the original poster of this topic
Very rarely have I seen a developer provide so much support to a game, especially a game that has very little problems and is so polished. I think Stardock is setting an example of how to keep hardcore fans around for years to come, by creating a great game and supporting it fully. Well, until the patch is released, I will continue enjoying the 1.1beta, I am having a great time with it as it is. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/C
Well said Orion Adrian, absolutely correct and I completely agree. I like cheating AI, bring it on, its more challenging and more fun.
They have their uses as mentioned, especially for attacking other unarmed cargo ships. Don't forget, you can put cargo, troop or colony modules on larger non cargo hulls. These are the "real" armed merchant warships. I put a colony module on a large hull ship before, and outfited it with a respectable amount of weapontry and defenses, it held its own in battle.
