Ship "Invasion" Options

Ok, you know how when you invade a planet(notice I did not say "system") you get some cool options concerning how much you want to blast the planet to crap and thus the occupying forces that be? Well I was thinking, "Why aren't there any options when, oh say, a fleet of five or more ships attack an enemy ship?" I thought about this and realized there is no good reason as to why this is not a viable option. Does anyone disagree with this or have any tweaks or improvements? Should this idea be submited to Stardock? Help me out here. Thanks

I like cool ideas and stuff. But darn... kind of adds complexity to the game where I don't want it.

Well.... what do you mean? Like boarding parties, strategic maneuvers and such? I beleive part of the answer is its very difficult to get the AI to correctly use such (seeing as it doesn't cheat). There are also other reasons floating around but I don't remember them.

Certainly is a cool idea, but as mentioned it will make the game more complex. I think the more complex a game becomes, the less effective the AI becomes.

I'm not talking about anything really complex, I mean, I don't think invasion options are really that hard to figure out.
Like(and this is just off the top of my head) a "Blitz" option where your ships maybe lose some offensive ability but if you win the battle you still retain that movement point or something. Does that clear things up?

Definately keep combat simple. The AI has trouble handling it is at it. My suggestion? Have AI favor soldiering techs first, then consider battle options.
