(I play on crippling with a large galaxy size, so things may be different on a huge map) 1. Make sure to upgrade your intial mining ship into a colony ship. 2. Buy a factory, and put your military slider to 100%, then build colony ships like mad. 3. Eventually switch off to 100% tech (as your money gets lower (around 1500 bc) and rush build a lab. 4. Reasearch along these lines as fast as you can <p style="padding-left:

Am I the only one that thinks it is strange that you can have a high espionage level with another civ, but your spies never can find out where the rest of their planets are?

How can I stop them? The last 3 games I've played I have gotten rolled by them. I can hold off transports with good solidering, but with an instant "I get planet" button, what defense can I make??? :(:(:(

I recently had a moral decision, which ended up giving one of my planets a +60% starship bonus. Does anyone know what this does? Will it stack with any bonuses from the Stellar Forge (playing Arceans)

Is there any use for them once medium sized ships pop out? I find that they are too hard to keep alive, so I get a much better deal building few stronger ships that can stay alive. So does anyone have a military use for these smaller hulls as the game goes on?

One thing to remember about war profiteering is that if you start conquering, the money you get from it actually starts to sink. I had a game where I had an amazing economy, after getting all the other civs to fight each other while I stayed out of the battle. But eventually I was attacked, and as I began to conquer my economy began to drop, both from having more ship maintenance, some of the AI's getting peaceful, and because I was conquering the guy with the biggest economy.&nbs

The last time I got the ranger is was probably more like how you wanted it to be. It was extremely powerful offensively, but it's defenses could be overcome. I had to be a little careful not to get it in over it's head. Ultimately I got a good offensive push from it, but eventually lost it. I overcame the iconians though, only to be swept over by the Altarians after a Jagged Knife hit that was particularly bad to me.

I usually play on a large map on crippling, just to give some background.... Anyways this question has to do with avoiding war. I sometimes find myself in a situation where I am playing catchup from a military standpoint. I'm behind on ships, or my ships aren't quite as good, and I have a powerful neighbor. So what are some stall tactics I can use while my military catches up? Does having a high diplomacy bonus keep the AI

IMHO it's almost easier to rebuild a starbase if it does get destroyed. You might need five or six constructors, but it's easy to spend 3 times that and still lose the startbase in battle if you actually build defenses. Depends on how thorough you are too. If you build every attack and every defense on the base it takes a lot of constructors. If you got a few starbase techs and just specialized against what the closest enemy attack and defense types are it might be alr

Yeah you are right. They just weren't popping up for me, because I hadn't researched something on the Altarian tech tree I guess. I started another Altarian game and I found them this time.

Is there anywhere where there is a list of the 2.0 balance updates? I was just playing and I suddenly noticed that 2 Altarian race specific techs that were there before are gone (inherent magic +25 solidering, and The temple of tandis, for an awesome temple) So I was wanting to know what else has been changed, but I don't know where to look?

If only I had known that patching would screw my save file. Oh well. Those Yor were prolly gonna die anyways :S

I would say 1.96, only b/c my old save file is crashing now that i've updated to 2.0 :S

I was playing just fine on my game last night. I updated to 2.0 today and now the old save file won't load. It either stays on the loading screen indefinitely, or begins to load and then the whole game drops. Thoughts? Suggestions?

If you are having trouble with money earlier I would suggest doing what I like to call the "temple sprint". You don't have to go straight there, but fairly early get the temple tech, and the one that follows it which gives you the "Shrine of Milthaldir" or something to that effect. This temple gives a massive morale boost. Get that sucker built on your homeworld pronto. Why? Because while all your other planets are tiny populations, your capital world should

The title says it all. Do you research and use beam, missile, or mass drivers? Why do you use the one you do? Does it vary by race? Do you finish one tree and start another, or do you research your weapons in parallel?

8 Replies 6,378 Views

My question today revolves around the area of ship defense. Does certain kinds of defense provide defense in areas not of the defense type? In other words if I have enough armor on my ship, does it start to provide some protection from missile and beam attacks? I was under the impression that it would not. However I was playing this morning and I was reading one of the tech descriptions for invulernability fields. It said that they suppli

So say I have 2 PQ10 planets with a max pop of 8 billion. From what I'm gathering there would be no difference in the following 2 sceanarios (assuming morale is equal, both have max pop etc): Scenario 1: Planet 1: 4 stock markets Planet 2: 4 stock markets ___ Scenario 2: Planet 1: 8 stock markets Planet 2: 0 stock markets

I would really like it if there was some sort of system for choosing what the issue would be. Perhaps each race in the council would get a turn to pick from say 5 different things to vote on and then that one would go up for the vote. Then you could push the issues that you want, instead of them being random.

Say 2 ships were to fight with the following stats: Ship 1: Beam Weapon:1 Armor: 40 Ship 2: Mass Driver: 1 Sheilds: 40 Would either ship eventually win? Or would it be an infinite battle with neither able to overwhelm the other's defenses?

So I've been playing ToA for a couple weeks now and I'm gotten a handle on the economy. My question has to do with the most effective way to get more money out of my economy planets. Should I.. A) Build a farm, some entertainment, and lots of stock markets (those percentages add up!) B) Build several farms, lots of entertainment, and some stock markets (lots of people pay lots of taxes!) C) Buil

How do influence starbases work? Do they increase the influence of planets within their radius? Or do they simply increase the influence of the "space" within their radius?
