Ranger Colony Ship

What were those precursors thinking?

Playing with latest beta build.

I was finally the recipiant of a nice ranger ship this game. Guess those luck points are working for me now. Unfortunatly, it gave me a ranger ship that looks exactly like the base colony ship and has only 2 movement points when most of my ships have 4-6. Surely this is not the normal behavior for this event? I was hoping for some advanced engines to go with those adavanced weapons and a nice intimidating look too.

Any comments?

I'm not sure exactly how the fitout of lucky rangers is determined? They never seem to show up early enough in the game to be of any use.

You have to go back to Galciv1 where lucky rangers can heavily impact on the game.

In this particular game, I have now recieved 4 rangers. They mop of anything that I throw them at, albeit slowly. Perhaps having the tech rate on slow has something to do with them being so useful?

Yes, probably. I, for one, find that the Ranger's huge attack power is a big factor in the game. Generally I don't use mass drivers, I just focus on either missiles or beams. Thus, a Ranger that's packing an incredible amount of whatever-those-are is a nasty surprise for my enemies.

I always make ships that move really fast, so I always thought that the Ranger was slow.

Sometimes I actually give the Lucky Ranger away in negotiations. They're worth a lot to the AI.

I always play very slow tech rate on obscene difficulty (DL) and lucky rangers are always useless to me.

Hi!
lucky rangers are always useless to me.

Also to me. In my last 7 games I never saw a signle one, and I and many AIs played all those games with Luck on.

I remember seeing one with Altarians in one old DL game. It never made an impact, without engines it was just too slow. I simply flew around it when taking altarians' planets.

BTW Lucky Rangers can be obtained only after 5 years of the game have passed. An old nerf, because earlier LRs did unbalance games too much.

Since they are so slow, I just parked them in orbit of my enemies main production facilities. It will be a good long time before he has enough armor to last long enough in a fight with one of those things. I now have the Talxerxians, Yor, Thalians, and SDN's all wasting money on ships that will never defeat me.
