A noob says what?

Hi everyone. I'm just starting to get the hang of this game. Or, not really, as my last few attempts at a Gigantic universe ended in early, crushing defeat on Normal difficulty.

My skill level aside, I'd like to start playing in the Metaverse, but there's something holding me back: I have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing. A metaverse "empire" is like a team, is it not? And the points I earn from metaverse play would improve said empire's rank?

Point is, I need a Metaverse primer.

joining an empire is much like joining a team, though you don't really play together, you earn points and medals for games played on metaverse which contributes to you empires overall score.(about the only difference between metaverse games and regular games is the point system and consistancy checks for cheating)

The manual & current Wiki are sadly quite terse about the Metaverse. To read up, I suggest doing a search for "metaverse site:forums.galciv2.com" -- the site: bit will narrow your search to just this forum.

You can create your own empire if you like. You need an invitation to join an existing empire. Emporers can invite people, and evidently even Senators can do that, although I've yet to see anyone post click guidance on how to do that.

If you want to join an existing empire, post in that empire's active Metaverse thread or send a PM to the emporer. After you have an invitation, you'll be able to join the empire when you sign in and edit your character.

Some empire folks also use banners like this to advertise:

or just post recruter posts: Come join the Yautja empire! Quickly raising in rank! Come and prove that the Predators are the greatest alien race in existance!!!

At least some empires are open and you don't need an explicit invitation to join. All you have to do is go to the empire homepage off the listing of empire ranks and click join empire. The Galactic Diplomats for instance! We accept anyone who wants to join. The only rule is that you have fun.

GW, Emperors can send out an e-mail invite, but they are the only ones. Senators don't seem to actually have any extra privileges, it's just honorary....I have sent out a few invites to people, but I've just done it through the PM functionality.

Other than loathing what cell phones have done to the typed language, I basically agree here.

This is painfully fresh news to me, given that I'm a member of the MVC--makes me think that some or all of us should be more active over at the Wiki so we can get some stronger documentation going.

I don't agree (big surprise! ) Even in a big empire, like ours, there aren't usually a huge number of players active on the forums or private threads....Meaning it's easy to be a noticeable part of the empire community, if you so wish. The big advantage is that there are usually enough of us floating around that you can get some pretty specific help if you want it. In addition, we have been established long enough to have collected some interesting things in our back threads. It's also kind of about picking who you are going to "hang out" with...Although the GC II community is friendly enough in general for this not to be so much of a much. I doubt any of us check which empire someone is from before replying!

or u can join an empire with only 2 members(if u join, 1 if u dont, ) then u play a HUGE role in the sucess of the empire.

That is an excelent idea, maybe seeing as the MVC isn't doing much we can try and push out some community service.

Oh and welcome Kazuhir

If you haven't joined any empire yet, join the Hitchhikers. We are friendly and fun adn we have a great group of people to talk to and share strategies with. We are also hugely based in the Core so its easy to talk to many other members of many different empires.

Plus I personally think we have the best theme

Well, I know this thread isn't exactly meant for recruiting, but I started my own empire a while back and I used one of my characters to start it up and have only submitted one game for it so far... but if you are looking for a small empire to join, you are more than welcome to join "The Great Galactic Shoehorn".
In fact, just today I noticed someone else had put in a request to join... so they're in naturally.
Oddly enough, I have no idea how long ago they had put in that request, as I only happened to check my empire stats today after quite some time away from editing my empire characters... and there was the request! (hope they weren't waiting for an immediate answer)
