Thanks for the great stories Themocaw, including this one and "Diary of a Terran Soldier". Looking forward to reading more.

I disagree. I prefer to see the ships, because I dont have ships at every starbase, and I like to know where my fleets are at a glance. Starbases dont move, so I dont have trouble keeping track of them. Maybe there could be a display option where you could choose one or the other.
I defnitely would like a real-time clock on the GalCiv screen. My gf calls the time I play GalCiv "galactic-time", because there seems to be a time-dilation at about a 6:1 ratio. What seems like 5 minutes to me ends up being about 1/2 an hour in reality. This game is one of those "just one more turn" type of games that is difficult to stop playing. Over the weekend I played from 1 AM Saturday night until 3PM Sunday. The 58,000 point score was very satisfying. Luckily, my gf knows/accepts t
This is a bug that happens sometimes when you use CTRL-N alot to get a better starting planet. All the other empires do bascially nothing the whole game.
I've never seen the Peacekeeper event. I do play aggressively/warlike and prefer a conquest victory to anything else, so I am surprised this event has never happened to me in the 30+ games I've played. I'd really like to know what the triggering circumstances are for the megaevents. I've never seen the pirates either... The events that almost always happen to me are dread-lords, spies, & plague. Also the Jagged Knife, unlimited range, and open-tourism market seem to happen quite often.
Unless you are trying to minimize micromanagement, why destroy any newly taken planet? With a bit of effort, you can easily make it profitable and/or useful to your empire. More population = more research, income, production, ships, or whatever you build it to do. I never eradicate any planet.
Another instance in which invasion waves can be effective is if you are using Information Technology warfare. Send in successive transports using this and you can sway many more people to your side than just sending in one fleet of transports and using that tactic once. I did notice that sometimes after the first transport, the enemy morale has gone up to 100% (all the dissenters died in the first wave?), so you cant use it again. This only seems to happen some of the time though, and I dont
If you are an atheist, you can't ask a question from a non-existant entity. Sounds like you are more of an agnostic. Or maybe you are an anti-theist, hehe...
I think it might be possible in time to become a being of pure energy, through science, but not as a part of natural evolution or some mytical process. Many geneticists believe that the natural evolutionary process for homo sapiens has been disrupted or even halted by applications of modern science (advanced medicine mainly). Poeple with congenital genetic defects, and those who with without science would be infertile, now survive and reproduce. If genetic engineering were directed towards th
I agree with a lot of the ones that have already been mentioned, namely LoTR, Star Wars, Pulp Fiction, & Jaws. I'll also add Fight Club. Although, that could partially be because the music makes me think of the corresponding scenes in the movie, which I've re-watched many many times. When it was at the $2 movie theatre, my friend and I saw it three times.
I used to love rpg's like, Ultima, then Diablo, now we have oblivion. Oh yeah....forgot about Ultima! I played from Ultima I (on an Apple IIE) all the way to that last one which was so buggy it really wasnt playable. Some of those were awesome. I think I liked Ultima III the best of all.
Hehe, Mule was a cool game...havent thought about that one in a good long while. Starcontrol (the Korath are an obvious homage to the Kohr-Ah) Diablo - I hope it wont be pay-to-play though MOO & MOM Birth of the Federation Might & Magic - I think IV or V was the best
If only I didnt have to go to work and do other equally annoying things int order to be a reponsible adult, I could spend thrice as much time playing games.
Excellent story. You communicated a lot of feeling and characterization in a simple yet very descriptive way. One of the best tales I've seen here!
Definitely enjoyed reading your AAR quite a bit. Very entertaining and fun. Loooking forward to seeing another one.
A couple days ago I was playing a game and the Dread Lords showed up. As usual, they got whacked pretty quickly, but sadly it was not by me this time. Later on in the game I took the planet from the last surviving civ (Altarians) and discovered that it was aboslutely gi-nourmous! It was either class 35 or 38...I'll have to check when I get back home. All it had was the anti-matter generator, a starport, and the rest industrial sectors. Certainly the best forge-world I've ever had!
I look at a number of different ones, but try the Christian Science Monitor. Despite the name, the stories are not influenced in a religious way (I am an atheist and would not read them if they were), and they do an excellent job being objective and un-biased. They stick to the facts. The Newshour on PBS isnt bad either.
A few basic things: One important thing you seem to be neglecting is building a reasonably-sized military force so that the AIs wont think you are an easy target (which, no offense, you apparently are). You are better off building some low-grade military ships early on so the AIs wont continuously harrass, and eventually attack you. You can upgrade them, or build better ones later. Your build strategy seems to be a bit off too. There are many strategies, but if you want a balanced a
I've noticed a big diffence since I updated my game. Before the update, all the extreme planets would be grabbed very quickly by the AIs, but after the update there are always a good number left by the time I want to start researching it. I think it should be tweaked a little bit back towards the AIs grabbing them faster....but not too much.
Great idea....I hadnt thought of that, but it definitely does not make any sense to be able to see everything on every planet. Another idea might be that you could simply assign a spy to a particular empire, but not a specific planet. The spy would gather general intelligence on that civilization, perhaps getting a bonus to do this, because he is not assigned to a specified task on one planet. Mike Beyna
I have noticed an odd bug that has happened a couple times now. Soon after starting the game and playing a number of turns, I notice that the other empires are not colonizing, are doing negligiable amounts of research, and are building almost no ships (and no warships). The second time it happened, I kept playing to see how long it would last, and I successfully conquered the entire (large) galaxy without any of the other empires building even one warship. This particular game was on "tough"
I've never had a problem with this event. It has ended up being a free planet for me every time it has happened. I think they actually need to beef up what the Dread Lords appear with so that they cant be taken out right away...which is what I always do. They roll over quite easily. Mike
