All of these ships are beautiful, and I especially love the Wing Commander reproductions by Midnightrunner. They take me back to 1990, when I was a wee lad playing WC on a Tandy with a three-button joystick (you know, the thin black kind with bright red buttons — one on the trigger, one on the top, and two on the base). I need to get back into GalCivII again so I can crank out more ship designs of my own. GalCivII is a fantastic game even without the ship builder, but with it, i

I actually did get it to work just now, and it looks great. The process of installing it seems a bit jury-rigged and shady to me, though. Here's the problem -- no text actually shows up for selection corresponding to the mod, which practically screams "I'm buggy" even though it's the right thing to do:
I have the game on impulse and tried installing the mod to stardock games/ gal2/ twilight/ mods but when i run the game and go to options i can still only see default. When i hit 'change' theres a grey box with no text that i can highlight but when i move the cursor out of the window to the 'done' button it deselects itself. Any ideas?
I'm having the same problem as this fellow. I have the mod's readme

I've made some progress, and have finished editing several .XML files so far. I am also making minor cosmetic changes to some passages in addition to correcting technical and syntactical errors, to improve the narrative flow of sentences that just don't sound quite right. Here is an example from the "Anomalies" .XML file: Original Text : Our survey team has uncovered the remains of a device that produces soothing sound waves that

Should be fine. As those making foreign translation mods have seen the mod folder support is not entirely perfect, and since this'll be similar in the files changed, it may be best to just not use the mods folder. So you'll basically just need to reprduce the structure of the Data\English folder. Installation then would be a simple matter of making a backup copy of the folder and unpacking your files over the originals. Actually, yeah, that's pretty much

Yep, and feel free to do so. Okay, I'll get started, then. My plan is to copy the .XML files in question from the GalCiv2 directory, paste them to my desktop, edit them, save the changes, then check them using Internet Explorer. I will then check them against the original, unaltered .XML files from the GalCiv2 directory, to ensure that only the flavor text has been changed. Finally, I'll place all the files I alter into a directory stru

GalCivII is pretty solid as far as its grammar is concerned — certainly better than Space Empires IV — but it's far from perfect. Here and there in the race descriptions and event dialogs, there are omissions, mistakes ("it's" instead of "its," for example), and other grammatical errors. I am cursed with an unfortunate hypersensitivity to such errors, and so they detract from my enjoyment of the game... just a little bit, mind you, but it's an issue for me all the same. I have

This tutorial link in the above list needs some work: "How to: Add a major race in DL" First, I had to register in order to view the forum at all (or so it seemed, since I got a login request instead of seeing threads), which is always annoying. After I registered and activated my account, I clicked the link again, and got this message: "Sorry, only moderators are allowed to view this forum." So... like I say, it's kinda broken.

Never mind, I answered my own question. I found Blender online (it's free, as opposed to costing several thousand dollars), and I was able to import .X files into Blender using some of the custom ships in the library. You can export to .X from Blender, too, so I know I'll be able to use Blender to make .X ship models eventually. It's going to take me a while to learn to use Blender and

Can someone tell me what sort of software I need to create my own ship models and textures? I remember hearing something about 3-D Studio Max, but beyond that, I'm not sure what I need. Any recommendations, or links to sites with guides?

Oh, what the heck? I'll post some more of my ship designs. I'd use Imageshack, but I'm so used to Photobucket at this point that it's just a lot easier (plus, I already have all my ship designs stored there). ******************************* I call this design the "Vr'tra Battlecruiser". It's a really big ship designed to shoot really big guns. I really like the top-down and three-quarters perspectives, and the front and side views are okay, but they could be better.<br

Very nice job Dok! Great lines and curves, everything! When are you planning to upload it to the library? Oh, uh... as soon as I figure out how to do all that stuff. I'm still slowly learning about the custom ships community and tinkering with the shipyard. I've made a number of intricate ship designs at this point (that one's probably the best so far), and I'm really surprised with how well they turned out. I'

This is just a custom template I made for a Medium hull... no particular race or class of ship, just something I made and like the looks of. It could be anything, really. Dark Avatar + Kryo's Hull System Mod. Three-quarters View: Top-down View: Side View: <img src="http://i44.photobucket.com/a

I think I'm too late to the party here to post anything really meaningful. Suffice it to say that, even if you feel you're entitled to something, posting whiny, insulting, and/or accusatory comments on a message board isn't going to get your issue resolved any faster. Do you think you're the only one who's ever had problems with their PC games? Look around, everyone on this board is a PC gamer. I agree that you shouldn't have to wait an unreasonable amount of time for tech supp

(I'm creating a new thread for this, because I originally posted this question under the stickied H-Res Mod thread, and hadn't received a reply for three days -- I'm assuming no one checks it very often. I apologize if this is inappropriate in any way and understand f the thread needs to be removed.) Gentlemen: I followed the installation and setup instructions for The High Resolution Graphics Mod (the new patch version) very carefully. When I finished getting it set up and res

No, the metaverse only supports regular sandbox games. Okay. That's not really a disappointment -- sandbox games offer about as much depth as I could ask for -- I just wasn't sure if there were special scenarios tailored specifically for the Metaverse. If you have any particular questions, feel free to ask. A couple of other sites of note are the T

Okay, I've done some research into the GC2 Metaverse already. I get the basic idea of it: You play games in a controlled environment (i.e., no cheating or mods enabled), submit your best scores, and receive an overall ranking, plus stuff like military rank for games submitted and medals for various different achievements, which you can then display on your forum posts. I get all that. I even registered the game and created my own Metaverse character, and I assume that Empires are commun

Gentlemen: I followed the installation and setup instructions for The High Resolution Graphics Mod (the new patch version) very carefully. When I finished getting it set up and restarted DA, I knew it was working because I could see the new logo in the bottom left-hand corner of the start screen. I followed all the recommendations for graphics settings from the installation program, like specular intensity, contrast, etc. The mod seems to work great on any home planet I start w

I know how to add my own race portraits to DL, and I know how to create new ships with jewelry and components and save them for later use, but I'm not sure how to create my own customized core ships that a custom race can begin with immediately -- i.e., when you start the game, the flagship, colony ship, and miner ship you initially begin with are of your own design instead of one of the five race styles. Is this possible, or is it more trouble than it's worth? I'm something of a

I've noticed that when selecting the "Speed" ability during race customization, the two check boxes say "5 points for +1 pc/month" and "8 points for +2 pc/month", respectively. As a newbie, I was very confused by this since movement is done in pc/week, not per month, although it turns out that in-game it does indeed give you +1 or +2 pc/week, not month. Anyway, just thought you might want to fix the wording in a later update.

I, too, can play in 1680 x 1050 on my 20" widescreen with no problems. My drivers (ATI) are up-to-date as of a week ago, too -- be sure to check that. Even though I can play in 1680 x 1050, though, I still set it to run in 1400 x 1050, because widescreen resolution stretches out some images in the game (such as aliens' portraits when they're speaking to you), which I find highly annoying. It is possible to set your graphics card so that it doesn't automatically stretch an image

*jawdrop* Man... every page of this thread is stuffed full of awesome ships. I'll have to do some Battle of the Gods building of my own, even though I'm a huge GalCiv2 newbie. One question: How do you select a set of custom ships to begin the game with? Do you have to make them first, and then select them when you're starting the game? (I noticed there's an option to use custom ship desig
