2. A Strong Magnetic Field/Iron/Nickel Core: The planet in question must have an Iron and Nickel Core in order to maintain a powerfull magnetic field, or energetic particles emitted by the sun will burn away the atmosphere that we so lovingly cultivated. This magnetic field also influences our weather, somehow, by-proxy, I think... If this can be verified/debunked that would be great. At any rate, that magnetic field is essential to protect the new atmosphere.
Look at the

Build Counter Espionage Centers, which also double as decent morale improvment buildings.
Jagged Knife is okayish, you can easily bounce back from that. Dread Lords are okay as long as you act quickly. If the Mega Pirates appear, however... Run for the hills.
Nah. Sell all your ships and starbases and rush-buy a couple of transports with lots of engines ;)
IPs are indeed your UP votes. They're spent each time a vote comes up, and accumulate each turn in between based on your current influence levels. Trading them is like buying and selling votes.
Oh, so that's what the influence on the trade screen is for. Would it be possible to rename it into UP votes?

I've played the TA Altarians and didn't run in to financial problems. Was a smooth and pleasant ride for me. At the start of the game, don't build anything on newly colonized planets and try keeping your morale at 100% as long as possible. Research economy and morale enhancing techs early on. Pop-growth enhancing techs are a good idea too.

Personally I have very much designed the ship designer from MOO 2. Select a hull size and add weapons and other functional components. Simple and efficient. Don't get me wrong, the ship editor in GC2 is great. And the new functional components in TA improve it eve further. However I don't use the personally. I've tried a few times, but unfortunately the hardpoints on most parts are either at the wrong places, too far apart or was too dense. In addition there's the superb icon vi

By the way, question similar or related to the one by mentor07825 frequently appear on http://ask.slashdot.org While not representative, the comments to those questions often provide interesting insight (and quite often a good laugh. Good ol' /. humor ^^) Most universities/colleges/schools offer mentor programs, where older students, graduates or people working in the industry offer their help. Be sure to participate in them. If possible, try to get an experienced developer as

There are a couple of great books about C++, for example "Thinking in C++": http://www.amazon.com/Thinking-C%2B%2B-Introduction-Standard-2nd/dp/0139798099/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1200677330&sr=8-1 (Volume 1) http://www.amazon.com/Thinking-C%2B%2B-Vol-Practical-Programming/dp/0130353132/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1200677330&sr=8-2 (Volume 2) A must-have for every serious programmer is Donald E. Unfortunately I'm neither Brad nor a Stardock employee, I'm not even involved in game development. However as leader of a popular open source project and as computer science student, I would like to share my point of view. First of all, you need to understand that programming is a love-hate relationship. It can be great most of the time, but quite often it's just tedious and frustrating. You will eventually spend hours or even days hunting a single bug. You'll curse your code, blaming t

Small suggestion: You might want to use a different algorithm to scale your images. With cubic interpolation they would be a lot more readable.

If you did tie your serial to your email address (no clue if that's even possible, as I have the download version), install Stardock Central and select "Tools -> Lookup Serial Number" from the menu. There you enter your email address and it will mail you your serials.
As long as you invade a planet before any AI players do, it shouldn't crash. If you don't want to invade, just invading to bring up the screen and then cancelling should be enough to prevent the crash from occurring. You just have to open that screen once on your own before any AI players do.
Before AI does it to you or even before AI does it amongst each other? Does it persist over restarting GC2?
Save your game every 10 turns. When an AI invades on a turn and the game crashes you know where the AI is headed. Intercept and destroy. Garison all planets. All our base are belong to us.
