Next beta 4.(?) sooner than prev sheduled?

due to invasion bug Stardock?

I may be wrong in this but from reading the forums I got the impression the game always crashes whenever the AI invades a players planet due to a bug with the new invasion screen. This basically means it would be almost impossible for the AI to win because it can't take the players planets except culturally.

For the people who are playing the beta just to find bugs this shouldn't make a difference, but for others who are playing the betas for fun or other similar reasons it has a serious impact.

As I understand it the cause of the bug has been found. Will there be a small mini update released once it's fixed instead of us waiting until 17th Jan which I think the next beta update is planned to be released.

A small mini update to fix this bug would be great.

It would make sense since apparently this bug is fixed in the next beta already and is just not released. But who knows sounds like most of the stardoc team are busy else where this week so we could be out of luck.

A mini-update would I'm sure be appriciated by all, even though I haven't run into the crash yet myself.

Incidently I notice a lot of tech in the last couple of releases just say TODO in the description.

A hotfix for this issue would be perfect. Possibly including a much less disturbing 'skip' sound effect. ;)

Incidentally, I've been meaning to sit down with every race and collect every tech that's description is filler text and compile it in one bug report. I'm sure doing a find in the XML would yield the same thing, yet faster though lol.

There are hundereds of little things like that that can be fixed in the next couple of months before release. Fixing of tiny bugs is not the agenda of asking for a mini-update.

The hopefull request of a mini-update is only because the invasion bug is a game destroying bug. Also it's now supposedly been fixed so it's just a question of time before we get it. A tiny mini-update that just fixes that bug would be apreciated by many I feel.

Sorry I didn't mean that they desperatley needed to fix the TODO thing in tthe hotpatch, was actually just thinking that maybe compiling a list of them would be helpful as Loupdinour said.

Kind of just thinking aloud.

I think it's a good idea to put out a hotfix on this bug not only for those playing the game for fun but also for those playing it to test. It is difficult to test the game when it crashes upon an AI invasion of the player's planets.

 :) No worries.

Compiling a list in a new thread is a good idea.

Save your game every 10 turns. When an AI invades on a turn and the game crashes you know where the AI is headed. Intercept and destroy. Garison all planets. All our base are belong to us. For great justice!!

Just pretend the AI has developed a new super weapon for use in invasions that destroys the fabric of space and time, destroying the universe. The aim of the game is to not only win, but prevent any possible invasion. The ultimate challenge. Someone win on suicidal with this bug!!

Oddly enough I have been invaded several times and it never crashes on me. I am playing with a heavily modified game however. Additionally I have a mod for invasions also enabled.

Doesn't work. Mega Pirates, me being slow Arcean and enemy sending speed 10 transports (twice as fast as pirates). Now I could easily survive enemy invasion being fully teched and having tir'quan with enemy having basic invasion tech only. If only the game would not crash :/

What was the cheat code again to remove ships?

Yours probably didn't crash because of this work-around:

As long as you invade a planet before any AI players do, it shouldn't crash.  If you don't want to invade, just invading to bring up the screen and then cancelling should be enough to prevent the crash from occurring.

You just have to open that screen once on your own before any AI players do.

As mentioned above, this has been fixed, but in the meantime,  you can use this workaround.

Before AI does it to you or even before AI does it amongst each other? Does it persist over restarting GC2?

Before the AI does it to you.  The problem is in the screen itself.  When an AI invades an AI it doesn't bring up that screen, so it won't crash.

It does not persist over restarting GC2.  You will have to do it once every time you start the program.  If you start a new game from within an existing game, you shouldn't have to do the workaround if you already did it in your first game.

So this is once in the whole game right? This isn't something you have to do every turn? So basically for now, beeline to transport tech and invade once in the game first before an AI invades you just to bring up the screen then cancel and save transport for later or go ahead and invade.

Only prob is you better be a warmonger to one civ early on. So much for peace. Oh well the galaxy is a dangerous place.

We have a build ready to stage, but the FTP servers are being moved around by the IT team, so it looks like tomorrow at the earliest.

..so.. I create a savegame on very easy where I am just starting an invasion and load this game every time i start GalCiv.

Then I load my "real" game.. Sounds ok as a workaround :-).

Thanks BoogieBac. That's great news. :)

There's always at least one minor civ in the early game that I want to smack around. Always. Those guys are just plain naughty.

I think the work around suggested is what I was doing in inadvertently.

One thing someone suggested on another thread was this:  Have a saved game where a transport is next to a foreign planet.   When you start galciv2 load that game, invade the planet, hit Cancel.

Then you can go back to the main menu and either load the game you want to play or start a new one.

That is, until we can get the update out.

The update is now available.  Please stop using the workaround.  It shouldn't be needed anymore.
