No longer have Serial number :(

I have reinstalled Galactic civilizations dread lord and I have recently moved and i have lost the jewel case for galactic Civilizations Dread Lords but i kept all my discs in a bin so i wouldn't lose them. Any way i can find the serial number without purchasing it again?

I have it on another hard drive i used before i moved, but i want to update the game because i am now using Vista

If you did tie your serial to your email address (no clue if that's even possible, as I have the download version), install Stardock Central and select "Tools -> Lookup Serial Number" from the menu.
There you enter your email address and it will mail you your serials.

I already did the lookup serial number thing, i never registered the game before

Unfortuantely no, if you never registered it, then we won't know what it is either. If you entered it when prompted during installation it would be in the windows registry, but it sounds like you're working from a clean installation so that wouldn't help either.

Did you install and register it with Stardock Central? If yo did
the serial number should be on there system. You should be able
to load Stardock Central and input you user name and password.
An the stardock should let you install you games it has on
records for you ...

Well if you installed it on anthour computer can't you register it from there? Dosn't it keep the registration number from there or do you have to fill it out? It's been a year so I forget the procedure for registrating.

To bad I can't give you mine since I have 2 copies of Gal Civ II. It's registered in my name.

That is one great thing about Stardock, you register with them, and can always reinstall your game, since they give you the registration, just remember to use your origianl email address.

I have my Order number for the game from amazon will that get me anything?

Highly unlikely. We're not Amazon, so we can't exactly do anything with that.

Thought i could get a new serial number if i could prove i purchased the game.

Have you ever updated the game with stardock?

If you have updated the game then it is registered one way or another. Just use your E-mail as your log in and click on forgot password if you don't know it, and then it should be able to tell it to you.

On the plus side, it'll only cost $20 to buy it again (direct from Stardock). And if you rebuy it that way, at least it'll be registered right off the bat.

Always register your Stardock stuff - it's proof you own the game, and then you'll always be able to easily redownload it at a later date.

Sometimes, though you'd need an actual receipt and not just an Amazon order number that we can't use or even confirm is genuine.

Just out of curiosity (I have my serials and everything is registered, but disaster could strike any minute...)

If I had the amazon order number and an official printout from my bank account where the transfer is listed (IIRC amazon includes the order number in that) would that count as proof?

As far as German law is concerned, it would be valid - though you might have to talk to someone 'in charge' at the store to accept that.

(On a complete tangent, all software EULAs are technically void in Germany, as such an agreement would have to be presented prior to buying the product, not after. Not that software publishers would care. But I disgress.)

Support would probably want a photo of the discs as well, but I believe that would be enough. Though obviously if you've already registered and just forgot all details of the account, just recovering the account would be simplest. Which is also a good reason to use truthful details on your account.

StalinT, if you have a save game, your serial number would be saved into that, as long as you had entered the serial number when you installed.  If you zip the save game and send it in to [email protected], I can check the save game for the serial number.  However, I will expect you to immediately register the serial number if I'm able to extract it from your save game so that I don't have to do it twice.  :)

I never registered the game. But do you want me to take pictures of the disks and send them to you? Cause i can do that i have the disks with me right here.

Yeah well i wasn't sure if i had already registered it so i did the resend serial number but it didn't contain one. Which meant i never registered it.

The question isn't if you have discs, its a matter of whether you bought them from someone who registered the serial number before selling it to you.

I didn't buy it from anyone! I bought it off of amazon!

Calm down. Just so you know your starting to sound agresive. I know it can be annoying when you loose something but if you get (or seem to get) angry people will be much less likely to help out.

I didn't buy the game from anyone, I bought it brand new from amazon.

And your definitely right Sir on the edge.

If you can get an actual receipt (not just the order number) from Amazon, that with a photo of the CDs should be enough if you contact [email protected] about this.

Or, if you entered the serial when you installed the game on your old machine (it's optional, so you may not have; this is different from registration), you may be able to pull a savegame off that drive and send it to Cari to recover your original serial.

Would a screenshot of the purchase from my order history from amazon be enough, or a screenshot of the invoice? Because i purchased it 2 years ago. And i never registered the game. Not on this computer or my old one.

You'd need to contact support to see *exactly* what they need for proof.
