I just came back to Dark Avatar after a year away. Two things I wanted to know: What is the latest version of Dark Avatar? I think I have it at 1.50. Is that the last update before Twilight of the Arnor? How does Dark Avatar compare to Twilight of the Arnor? Is one faster game than the other? Is it better to build this rather than that? More war less diplomacy? Thanks for the answers.

The quote that is most valuable in all of Sun Tzu's writtings: "Know your enemy and know yourself and in 1000 battles you will not lose." -Sun Tzu Coincidently, (or perhaps not) it is also the most difficult to understand and hardest to implement. I also like "wisdom before courage" -Sun Tzu
I have been looking for this answer so I just wanted to make a reply in this topic so I can reference it later.
I thought a civilzation wide morale bonuses only counted up to 100%. Does anything past 100% still help your morale?
I believe the economic might is measured by how much you are making in total (that is to say before you pay for production/maintenance). So you could be making 500++ bc per turn and be the worst in economy or you could be making -500 bc per turn and be the best economy. There is also a tab for treasury that lets you know how much money each civilization has saved in their tresury. Is this what you are looking for?
For anyone who thinks that if we leave the middle east or muslim alone it will become some kind of united front (or nation) to combat America is just plain ignorant of history (both ancient and modern). When was the last time the entire middle east was untied? ...NEVER. Although it did come close at some points in history (Persian/Greek Empire and Ottoman to name a couple). Beyond that point, a large number of muslims live outside of the middle east (particularly in southeast asia.)
[/quote]Er...this happens part of the time (possibly ~50%) with Civ Graveyard anomalies regardless of whether you have Creativity or not. Its a great eco-tactic though. When you get that report from your explorers "We're approaching an apparent Civ Graveyard" (i.e. you cursor over the anomaly your surveyor is approaching), your research establishment briefly turns its attention to some of the deep mysteries of...physics, whatever...and requests that the explorers look for pertinent tech
From JubJub: "I suggest that planets have multiple layers." Like and ogre? Nah, don't think it is doable because part of galciv2's appeal is its simplicity. Too many things going on and imbalances start to multiply. Besides you could argue that the game does already take this into account. You can see that when you colonize a higher PQ planet it is still smaller than some other lower PQ planets. How could this be? Maybe it has underground caves, "
FIRST AND FOREMOST DON'T COMPARE your economy to the AI. Most of the lines on that graph mean squat unless you a playing metaverse. However if you want to get an idea of how you are doing, it is actually the population curve which is the best indicator. GJDriessen basically got it right. Don't grab too many colonies too fast. Grow your population as fast as possible. Build nearly all economic improvements in the beginning. Get some morale and econ techs.<br/
Alright I have now figured out whatever you say to ToS Iceman he doesn't really read. He just comes up with a reply instantly to dispute it, no matter if it makes sense or not. Don't bother replying to him. It is a waste of your time.
I have experimented with creativity and found only one use for it, in DL and DA (Currently I play DA 1.50). It can kick in when you come across a civilization graveyard anomoly that can give you a 25% research to the tech you are currently researching. If you don't have creativity and the tech you are currently researching is less then about 10 turns total (somewhere from 8-12 turns total, I forget the exact number) it will give you the 25% of tech researched. HOWEVER, if you were re
Oh and I am playing 1.50 DA and I had no extra points in diplomacy.
That is funny, I am playing Terrans on Suicidal with 9 opponents on a Huge map and super diplomacy is the only ability that is saving me. The AI even trades some of the lower range weapons techs with me. Their are only a handful of techs that they won't give up (pretty much the top level of just about any tree). If anything I think the super diplomacy ability is rediculously good. Oh and I have 7 out of the 9 tech treaties in the game (which means slid my research bar to 0 and didn't build a
From ToS: Well, I'm not really sure he came up with entirely new lines of government... You don't think a system of 3 seperate branches that put checks and balances on each other with a constitution that can be added to was a new system of government in 1776? If the American system was not a new form of government I don't know what was. If you want to get really technical I would say that no system of government is really new. It just a matter of including mo
From Anch and ToS "How many Ambassadors do you know who've come up with entirely new lines of government? And how many labcoats do YOU know that did just that? In terms of proximity, which one do you think makes more sense? Notice why I gave that example." I can think of one that fits both. Benjamin Franklin. He was both a scientist/labcoat and a statesmen/ambassadors. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Smile.gif" border=0 ali
No problems from me Wyndstar. I love your strats. It makes me laugh when people try to impose rules to restrict strategy. I wonder what kind of rules they impose upon themselves in the real world. Keep posting like a champ and don't let the little fish get to you.
Wyndstar: Your strategy for suicidal is amazing. I thought I had to turn off tech trading because of the new advantages the AI recieved but choosing humans super diplomacy makes tech trading worth it again. Because of your help I can now beat suicidal agian. The tips about going against 9 AIs also helped. Usually I just go up against 5. Seems like the colony rush ends sooner with 9 AIs and they cant take advantage of their gianormous economy as much to keep and unlimited supply of
Did either of your test planets have a moon? It would change the final mps, and anything derived from those mps. Also, if the concern is a difference in tp under a research focus, does one of the planets have rings? drrider What do moons and rings do? What is mps again?
If you choose a bonus for one race play a game and then pick another race and play a new game. Does the race you picked first keep that bonus as the AI in the next game. When I go to set up games now some of they races say they are retaining the racial picks that I assigned them and they seem to be doing better in the colony rush and overall strength of their empire. Are they using the racial picks that I choose for them last game?
Thanks for all the information Iztok. I appreciated it.
PQ26 planets should be all about economy with a side of manufacturing unless all your other planets are economy. I would say the most generic advice I can give you is stick with the two factories on the bonus tiles and make the rest stockmarkets/approval/farms. If you need the research you could do what falcon suggests but only if you need the research. NEVER TURN IT INTO ALL FACTORIES! Your economy will die and you will have little to show for it. Basically you will have a fleet o
So when do you get the benefits from evil on the tech tree. I am mostly interested in the +100% econ, and 50% military production. Do you get either of those when you research xeno ethics?
Cumberberg: Your reading right. On a huge galaxy I only take 8-12 worlds in the intial colony rush. Build the base from there. I usually get the last 2 or so of my worlds because they are low PQ planets that the AI overlooks and therefore it gives me time to grab them. Buddy up with the strong military powers. When someone declares war on you just pay off 2-3 of the other AIs to attack them. With that kind of damaged and the fact that the AI does not send a lot of transports at you
Just watch out, if they come in with two fleets you are owned.
How do you recheck your setting when you are in the middle of the game?
