Noobie-PQ26 Help

I am playing my very first game (DA) and have just intially grabbed and colonized a habitable PQ 26 planet. I need advice on how to best develop and utilize this goldmine.

I am playing on normal difficulty with 9 AI's in a huge galaxy. It's Sept 2227 and I have colonized a total of 9 planets. Currently I am ranked #1 in the galaxy ( thanks to all the postings I've read on this board!) and have 8000 BC in my treasury.

This planet is not on the frontier and is tucked securely deep within my territory. It has 2 each 100% manufacturing bonus tiles.

My thought is to develop and focus it to become a specialized military producing powerhouse along with my current homeworld. My other colonies to focus on economy and or reseach capabilities.

How best to develop this PQ26? I have two factories already established on the bonus tiles...how best to grow the population, keep happiness up and develop the manufacturing capability? When should I designate it as my Manufacturing Capital? Should I import colonists from other planets to help it to grow quickly or instead keep grabbing new planets?

Most of the habitable planets are now spoken for. There is a PQ14 planet with heavy gravity and a PQ15 planet with a toxic atmosphere on the "frontier" still up for grabs at this stage. My thought is to focus my strategy and geting these two "prizes" first at all costs and then turn my attention to developing my infrastructure.

My two closest neighbors I've made contact with and have developed good relations with thru economy and research agreements. They both have not yet developed any appeciable military capability.

Grab those two planets, first? Then how best to develop the PQ26 colony?

Advise appreciated.

From what i've learned in these great forums, a planet with that high of a PQ is a great economic planet. You can use it for research or military production but those aren't really the best directions because social/military/research are not affected by population counts.

To make a military planet, you need factories and a starport. For research, you need labs. But to make an economic planet you need farms for increasing the tax base, morale structures to keep approval high and and stock markets to generate income. With all these requirements, it's only natural that you need a high PQ to generate a decent amount of money.

You can find more information about planet development here. Be advised, i am unsure if the " Planetary Improvement techs to avoid (with 1.1 patch)" section is still accurate. There are pros and cons for specializing your planets, i for one believe it's the right way to go, opinions may differ.

Hi Ranger,

Turn it into your rearch planet. Build a few more factories and fill it mostly with research buildings leaving room for the technological center and the Omega research wonder. Along with a few economy starbases you will have 1000+ research points as well as a medium military planet.

Have fun

I would agree with falcon. But i dont normally bulid too many economy only planets, i just use the quantity of planets to get a goodeconomy with most of my planets balanced withmabe a few more stock markets than other buildings. Since this great planet is "tucked away" its not necessarily the best military planet since all those hsips will have to spend turns getting to the fight. Being tucked away also means its easier to protect. I would still use those bonus tiles for factories, it'll help get those other buildings buildt faster. You can always build over them later.

As far as the omega research center, i dont think it needs to be on the research planet since its effects your entire empire. build than on a planet that can get it done fast.

Other factors might be what the sizes of you oither planets are and how many of those might be good for building ships. you already seem to have a good economic base.

Knowledge is power.

Well, a PQ 26 means lots of space. And that is useful for the various galactic wonders/ trade goods that you may want to build. And in order to be able to build fastly those kind of improvements you need lots of manufacturing power.

Hi!
Then how best to develop the PQ26 colony?

IMO it depends on what "capitals" are still avilable. Also, changing it into the manufacturing capital would be an overkill - you'd need a really good economy to support it, and you'd also have significant losses with building cheap ships (wasted mil production: money over the price of a ship doesn't return to treasury, like money for buildings). Since you didn't mention any research bonus, I'd turn the planet into money-maker: those two factories, 1-2 farms, 1 morale building to keep pop growing fast, rest econ buildings. Maybe Starport to turn "lost" mil production into some cheap constructors, but convert it to Stock Market (also the morale building and those two factories) when the rest of the planet is filled with them.

I agree with your straigy so far, go with the indus. if has bounses for it or anything else that has bounses for that catergory eg.(precrouser libaries, reasearch. influnce/morale/farming, population. mineral bounses, production. If doesn't have any bounses make it into a econamy world or even home defence (I got to 500% giggity  )).

Get 1000+ production more like it.

PQ26 planets should be all about economy with a side of manufacturing unless all your other planets are economy. I would say the most generic advice I can give you is stick with the two factories on the bonus tiles and make the rest stockmarkets/approval/farms. If you need the research you could do what falcon suggests but only if you need the research.

NEVER TURN IT INTO ALL FACTORIES! Your economy will die and you will have little to show for it. Basically you will have a fleet of ships that you can't fund becuase all your money is eaten up the the manufacturing.
