George, I indeed received your Western Union money order, which, as it happens, I still have with me. It was for $39.90, not $70, and I did NOT cash it for the very simple reason that bank costs would actually be HIGHER than the value of the money order (that, by the way, is also why we don't accept International checks). I suggest you talk to Western Union or to your bank and find out what happened to your money. Even though I did not cash

Unfortunately it looks like the original piece of news was too long - or something like that. All information related to WorkShelf was 'cut out' from it. Anyway, here goes the missing stuff: WorkShelf is, in the world of Windows, the Swiss Army knife of user interface enhancements. Intended as a multi-leveled Desktop replacement, it is equally at home functioning as a tabbed program launcher. Like a dock, but better. It enables you to organi
Are you a Power User? Do you like to tweak your system so that every bit of it looks and behaves just the way you want it to? Then NextSTART and WorkShelf may be just what you were looking for! <P class=MsoNormal align=cente
Yes they can be run together. As for how different they are, give them a try and decide for yourself. NextSTART has been around since the end of 1998 and WorkShelf since July 2000, they are not exactly 'new kids on the block'. There is a lot of functionality in those two applications, which you will undoubtly agree if you decide to scratch more than skin deep. Have f
Give it a try and find out for yourself. I think you will be pleasently surprised.

Yes, wouldn't it be interesting to see independent usability studies on these types of apps?
DesignCaddy, neither ObjectBar nor ObjectDock - Stardock applications that came out long after NextSTART and WorkShelf first did, by the way - can do everything that the 'equivalent' Winstep applications do. If you are talking in terms of eye candy, sure, in certain aspects those Stardock applications are even superior - but definitely not in terms of functionality. The problem is that beauty is skin deep, and you have to dig deeper than the surface with Winstep applications to strike the gold y
So what are NextSTART and WorkShelf? Let's start by saying what they are not: they are not shell replacements and they are not unsupported system hacks. This means you will not be forced to abandon Explorer, modify Windows system files or be stranded with no shell if something goes wrong - nor wi
Errr, HG, if by 'new start' he means NextSTART, so does NextSTART.
... which obviously invalidates what PeanutMan said.

WorkShelf can be attached to the top or bottom of the screen or simply left floating on the desktop. To save valuable screen space, Workshelf can be hidden from view or collapsed down to a simple tab display. Quickly moving the mouse to the associated screen edge is all it takes to make it fully

Again, that 3 year lap between 2.0 and 3.0 included thousands of additions, both major and minor. For 3 years there were no charges! Besides, Photoshop is sold for over $600, here we are talking the price of a simple meal. Jeez. And as if that wasn't enough, the current Dollar vs Euro exchange rate (I live in Portugal) means Winstep is getting about minus 35% per unit than a year ago. You sound like you would rather see Winstep go out of business than part with a measly extra $5 or $10
Nounnours, with NextSTART 'the only thing you can do is skinning' and you are *only* exagerating a little?! Sorry but you must have run the program for the best of 5 minutes then, .

You are probably using NextSTART v2.81. Version 3.0 (available from the Winstep web site) is currently still in beta, but it's the version that supports the startbar/quicklaunch items you see in the latest themes... Don't worry, it's basically bug-free, so download and install at will. Even with version 2.81 you can get rid of the Computer icon: just change the Hotspot's activation method so that i
What themes cause this error and what NextSTART version are you using? My guess is that you are using version 2.81 and you are trying to apply some of the newest NextSTART 3.0 themes. There was a bug in public beta 2 of v3 that caused themes made with it to crash v2.x. The bug has been solved, but you probably have to re-download the theme from here (most of the problematic themes have already been updated - check their description).
