NextSTART has been around since the end of 1998 and WorkShelf since July 2000, they are not exactly 'new kids on the block'. DesignCaddy, neither ObjectBar nor ObjectDock - Stardock applications that came out long after NextSTART and WorkShelf first did, by the way - can do everything that the 'equivalent' Winstep applications do. If you are talking in terms of eye candy, sure, in certain aspects those Stardock applications are even superior - but definitely not in terms of functionality. Again, that 3 year lap between 2.0 and 3.0 included thousands of additions, both major and minor. For 3 years there were no charges! Besides, Photoshop is sold for over $600, here we are talking the price of a simple meal. Jeez. And as if that wasn't enough, the current Dollar vs Euro exchange rate (I live in Portugal) means Winstep is getting about minus 35% per unit than a year ago. You sound like you would rather see Winstep go out of business than part with a measly extra $5 or $10

You are probably using NextSTART v2.81. Version 3.0 (available from the Winstep web site) is currently still in beta, but it's the version that supports the startbar/quicklaunch items you see in the latest themes... Don't worry, it's basically bug-free, so download and install at will. Even with version 2.81 you can get rid of the Computer icon: just change the Hotspot's activation method so that i

What themes cause this error and what NextSTART version are you using? My guess is that you are using version 2.81 and you are trying to apply some of the newest NextSTART 3.0 themes. There was a bug in public beta 2 of v3 that caused themes made with it to crash v2.x. The bug has been solved, but you probably have to re-download the theme from here (most of the problematic themes have already been updated - check their description).
