Russ, that is not the point. I couldn't care less about him having the winstep.com domain. I'm happy with winstep.net. The point is that Markmann has been trying to force me to buy his domain using a number of dirty tricks. Read my clarification in the middle of the thread at DeviantArt. Your two favorite desktop enhancement utilities just got a lot better: NextSTART 2.81: An incredibly powerful replacement for the Windows Start Menu, System tray and Taskbar. It is, of course, fully skinnable, with a wide range of themes supplied with the package and many hundreds m

Well, I could be wrong since I didn't count them one by one, Brad, but I did count 19 pages with 10 themes each - page 19th having exactly 10 themes displayed as well. So, 19*10=190 - unless WC always display 10 themes per page, even on the last page (where in this case it would have to repeat themes from page 18th). What happened is that I noticed new themes being added recently and the counter remaining unchanged at 187 - so, either the counter is broken or, by coincidence, someone is

Hi! I noticed that several new NextSTART themes have been added lately but that the themes counter on the left panel has remained steady at 187. There are 19 pages with 10 themes each, so the counter should read 190, not 187. Looks like the counter got broken somehow? I thought you might also like to check the following URL, it has a lot of interesting and useful information regarding system resources: http://www.aumha.org/a/resource.htm Jorge Coelho NextSTART 2.80 - A user interface you can actually use! http://www.winstep.net - Winstep Software Technologies IRC Chat: #winstep on AustNet

> Yes it does crash just as the system resources suddenly diminish, which never happened before installing nextstart. Don't jump to conclusions, we never saw nor got reports of sudden resource drops being caused by NextSTART (I've seen this happen with another program in WinME, though, and no, NextSTART was not running at the time ). I think something else is causing the sudden resource dr

That's weird... Is there an error message? Can you reproduce it all the time? If not, and since you are running under Win98, have you kept an eye on system resources? If yes, is there a common pattern (like Pagemaker being open, for instance)? Does it happen when you do something? Regarding NextSTART ignoring your Sound off commands in Preferences: where are you setting this? To globally prevent sounds, you must disable the 'Sounds' option in NextSTART's Global Preferences tab. <br

Funny. On my XP system, after being up for 12 days, NextSTART is using 149 handles, WorkShelf 229. Explorer, however, is using 11,078 (!!!) handles, IE is using 5,943 and Outlook Express 4,193. Isn't this the MS we have grown to love? Har har. Jorge Coelho NextSTART 2.80 - A user interface you can actually use! http://www.winstep.net - Winstep Software Technologies IRC Chat: #w

Once I was standing up by the doors of a subway train, waiting for my station to come. I was carrying heavy bags on both my hands. Facing me, leaning against the opposite wall, was this strong middle aged woman with some rather large breasts (ok, they were HUGE). Needless to say, the train breaks suddenly, I lose my balance and, not being able to grab onto anything because my hands were full, I dive head straight onto the woman's bosom. Before you even think it, no, I did not enjoy it.

Lancer, XP is built on the same platform as W2k. I would go as far as saying that if you are already running W2k then there really is no need to upgrade to XP. As for OSX, well, read the following article in The Register (it even mentions Winstep and DesktopX): http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/39/23531.html Jorge Coelho NextSTART 2.80 - A user interface you can actually use! http://www.winstep.net - Winstep Software Technologies IRC Chat: #winstep on Au

There really is no comparison, gummiebear. NT/W2k/XP are rock solid Operating Systems - there are no resource problems and I only need to reboot when installing new stuff. Windows ME, on the other hand, must have been the worst Win9x version ever made (I know, I tried them all). Full of bugs and inconsistencies... plus, like all the Win9x family, it is inherently unstable and has a very limited pool of resources available. If you're one of those persons that has your

I have to totally agree with Jafo. Unfortunately this is the real world, and in the real world unless a shareware company puts some kind of limitation on applications (be it restricted features or a 30-day trial period) they won't see many registrations at all. It would be nice if we could release products with no limitations whatsoever, but alas, things being the way they are this would be the equivalent of shooting yourself in the foot. Generally it is the 'motivation' of getting rid

Ok, some questions, since I don't know much about Custo's structure: How many admins are there? Is Miriku the owner of the site? What do the other admins think about what he did? If most disagree, then why should anybody say that what he did is Custo's policy? Mobius, if you call 1.6% a giant number of users, well... Anyway, you must surelly agree that comercial users are the last ones interested in customizing their Windows PC - so, for us, those 1.6% of users still running Win 3.x are, unfortunately, completely irrelevant.

Feline said > I'll have to go with Bill on that one. It will take yet another couple of years before the majority abandons the Win9x platform. Actually, Feline, XP/Win2k users are only 6% away from becoming the majority (read the stats above), and catching up fast. Once this happens, more and more software will be developed that runs on Win2k/XP only (or has important features that only work on these two OSs). This, in turn, will accelerate the rapid decline of the Win9x codebase. <

Weird, Jafo... Probably some driver problem. I was stubbornly sticking to Win9x until Win2K came out. I installed it so I could dual-boot between the two OSs, and, as soon as I had all my hardware working in the new OS (and I have a lot of stuff in this machine, some so exotic I even helped beta test the drivers) I switched to Win2k and never looked back. I don't think Win2k ever gave me problems. Only reason I reboot is to install new stuff or things like that. For me it's the

Craeonics, from those 14%, roughly 11% are unknown, ie.; it was impossible, for some reason, to determine what OS they were running - doesn't mean they are not using some version of Windows. From the remaining 3%, some are running a Mac, others Linux, even others Win 3.x (1.61%!!), etc... Some of them might use those OS's at work (and a PC at home or vice-versa), or be people just passing by, etc... Jorge Coelho NextSTART 2.80 - A user interface you can actually use! h

Brad, I agree that a large percentage of early XP adopters are using pirated versions of the OS (and personally I am convinced one of the reasons is the activation mess, which is now backfiring on MS) but I don't agree that these people will not buy other software just because they are using a pirated version of the OS. For starters, there is a huge price difference between XP and the majority of shareware programs out there. I obviously do not condone piracy in any way or form, but I d

In the last month we at Winstep have noticed a steep increment in the number of NT technology users (NT/2000/XP) vs Win9x users (I think Brad will be able to vouch for this too). Not long ago only about 15-20% of users were running NT or Win 2000. With the release of XP, this percentage has climbed up to 40% (vs 46% of Win9x users - the remaining 14% are either unknown or using a non-Windows OS). This is very good news - it means that most Windows users out there are quickly le
