Which version are you using? 2.81 or the beta of 3.0? Anyway, the procedure is basically the same for both versions. Please read the FAQ at http://www.winstep.net/help/faqs/ns2_faq.htm and look for the following question: Q) How do I install and preview downloaded themes? With NextSTART you can conveniently access all your programs and files using a highly structured and completely customisable menu tree system. Menu configuration is a breeze with full support for drag & drop. Tear off sub-menus can be conveniently left open - rolled up or not - and placed anywhere on

Extasy, we have a #winstep IRC support channel on the Austnet network (a list of Austnet servers is available from http://www.austnet.org/servers/index.html ). You must be running version 3.0 beta to have non-square task tiles and to take advantage of the new 3.0 aware themes (such as Aquazone). My guess is that you are still running version 2.81, in which case you can download the 3.0 beta from: http://winstep.skwire.net/winstep/ns3-beta.zip Do NOT un-install anything

Unfortunately I think not, David. Basiclink hasn't shown much interest in putting the newsgroups server back together, so, at least for now, I removed them from the Winstep 'contacts' page. Hi Gef! Have you tried reading the 'Hotspot and Menu Editor' tutorial at http://www.winstep.net/help/tutorial/step01.html already? If that doesn't do it for you, please let me know. In the Startbar section of the Startbar Preferences window (where you can choose the position of the startbar), select 'Disabled' from the pull up menu. This will disable the Startbar for ALL themes, even if they are startbar aware. Yep, that is true. WorkShelf's basic concept - as well as NextSTART's - came from the wonderful (and far ahead of its time) NeXTStep operating system. The original NeXT shelf was supposed to replace the NeXT dock (the grandfather of ALL docks) in a beta of OPENSTEP, which unfortunately never became final (Steve Jobs ended up selling NeXT to Apple in 1997. After the sale, Steve Jobs was at first an advisor and later appointed acting-CEO of the company). We have, of course, evolved both W

Sorry, Brad, but what makes you think that Lightek doesn't have some kind of deal with DeviantArt to do just that? I know we do. They host the Winstep themes page (which they did before anyway) and in return we provide DeviantArt some extra traffic and possibly new Deviants. Not much different from what is happening here, actually. Jorge Coelho NextSTART 3.0 - A user interface you can actually

Thanks Jafo! It's a shame we only identified the problem theme now (after it getting more than one thousand downloads), but it took that long for reports to start showing up at [email protected] This theme could actually prevent users from running NextSTART if they had hotspots set to auto-activate on startup: NextSTART would attempt to display the associated menu(s) and immediately cra

WARNING! The 'Colorfull' theme WILL crash NextSTART if you use it! We think the author bypassed the validation procedures in NextSTART's Preferences GUI and hand-edited the configuration settings directly, entering a couple of out-of-range values in the process. Hand-editing NextSTART or WorkShelf configuration files is akin to hacking the Windows Registry directly: enter the wrong value and you can crash Windows hard, possibly being forced to re-install. Furthermore, and unlik

Trent, you must have tried WorkShelf before if you started getting the shareware nag so soon. The program is fully functional and it won't display a *single* nag screen until 15 days have ellapsed in your 30 day trial period. After that it will nag you a bit more for each day that ellapses. In the Registration tab, how many days did it say you had been using WorkShelf for? As much as we would like to rely on user honesty alone to purchase a program, every shareware author knows that UNL

Try it without ObjectBar and compare. Anyway, if you're running a lot of Windows customization software then you really should switch over to W2k or XP - you will never again have to worry about resource problems (or Windows crashing and taking all your programs with it). No idea yet, Benn. Could be a month, or less, depending on how fast things go (and they're going pretty fast!) Besides Spectre there are currently two more NS 3.0 themes floating around... If you mean a NextSTART theme, you must first - if you haven't already - download NextSTART from http://www.winstep.net . Unzip the file anywhere and run setup.exe. Once the application is installed, you can fire up NextSTART preferences, navigate to the themes tab and export the theme zip file from there - NextSTART will take care of the rest. Ok, just finished talking to Aldnn on IRC. For the possible benefit of others, here is what happened: Aldnn downloaded and installed the *upgrade* file winstep-exe.zip instead of the full version, winstep.zip. The web site clearly states that this is for previous users ONLY, since critical files are missing in the upgrade. Being German, Aldnn probably mis-read the warning. The result was that NextSTART could not function properly and crashed after warning Aldnn about the missin

Hi Aldnn. What you mentioned happens when the working folder for NextSTART has been changed from the one where the program was installed to (which is stated in the warning you received) or if you tried to manually uninstall NextSTART by deleting all files without first exiting the program (this will cause an 'Access Denied' error when deleting the executable). The proper way to un-install NextSTART, should you wish to do so, is to exit the application and then uninstall it thro

Not exactly true, Paxx, the end user ends up suffering too. Unisys, the holders of the GIF patent (or rather, the patent on a compression algorithm used in the format) charges software companies an outrageous amount for a GIF license. The end result is that most shareware companies simply cannot afford to pay up, so they choose not to provide GIF support - a shame, since that is basically the only format that allows animated graphics and has thousands of nice animations freely available on the w

Actually NextSTART is no longer showing up on the Library section at the left, at least not for new users - you will have to click on MORE to see it. My guess is that this is the result of some automatic feature implemented by Brad Wardel here at WinCustomize (I doubt he would ever do it on purpose, of course, hehe ). The section disappearence kind of happened at the same time we opened our own themes area a
