In your opinion which 4x games have the best or worst AI? My top three (no particular order): Galciv2 Space Empires IV (with TDM-AI mod) Alpha Centauri (however, friends tell me that if you spend enough time with this game, its predictable and easy. Never got that way for me.) Worst AI Ascendancy Space Empires V (before it was patched, and not counting any of the new AI mods) MOO3 (to be honest, i just don't understand the AI in this game. Some

I dont know what that means. How does that tell me the most efficient way to boost my perceived military strength?
Does anybody know exactly how the computer is calculating perceived military strength? Is it better to put a small weapon on a bunch of ships, or put more powerful weapons on fewer ships?
I think my problem is lack of military. Usually, I avoid having any military units until someone declares war on me.
Don't know what I'm doing to cause all the other races to hate me. But they get angry with me pretty early in the game. I don't have ANY influence star-bases either. Whats the best way to resolve our differences?
I just turned on 'enhanced ship rendering' in the video options menu and in the cluttered areas where i was getting 15fps zoomed all the way out (before the icons replace objects), I am now getting 22 fps. I've had 'enhanced ship rendering' turned off this whole time because I thought it would result in slower frame rates. Guess not...
I haven't decided whether I should pre-order TA because my graphics card might not be able to handle it. My card is the new intel x3100. I have 2 gigs of ram and a T7300 processor. I know this card is not a 'gaming' card, but it does at least have hardware shaders. In DA, on a medium map my frame rate is about 50 fps at the start of the game. However, later in the game, if the screen is cluttered with tradelanes, starbases, and over a dozen ships, it dips to 15fps, sometimes even 10 fps if I am
Heh, several posts before this one left me with the impression that the game is almost finished.
Is TA still on track to be released mid Jan?
Ok, i think the answer is simply that the population on my homeworld is way higher than my other planets. Of course I upgraded the entertainment centers. I built other things that added to moral as well. I guess keeping 30 billion people happy required more.
I've noticed that late-game the approval rating on my home planet is about half of every other planet under my control. Doesn't seem to matter how many entertainment centers I have constructed either. What am i doing wrong?
So whats currently missing from the beta? Has the new graphics engine been implemented?
Even with all the missing features, TA > DA right now? I havent kept up on all the beta releases. How many more races do they have left to implement?
How playable is the current Beta of TA? Currently, how many things are missing from the downloadable version? Is it fun? Does it feel like an expansion yet or do you feel more like you are bug testing for the developers? I can't decide whether to wait until the final version or to jump on it now. Don't want to spoil the game for myself.
The recent preview at gamespy lists a December 12th release date...

I have a notebook with the new intel x3100 gpu. This is part of the first intel series to have hardware shaders, but right now driver support sucks. The latest drivers (15.6 and 15.6.1) give me about half the frame rate that the 1.5.4.4 drivers did. When I run the game with the 15.4.4 drivers, I noticed in the debug that it was running in software mode, while after installing the new drivers, it detects and runs in hardware mode. Is there anyway I can force software mode so that I can use the ne
Have the system requirements changed? I am just barely getting by with my i915gm.
Yea, i was just curious because when I set the resolution to 800x600 that DID have some effect. I thought perhaps the 16-bit color depth setting might do something as well.
How come I can edit the prefs.ini in "My Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar" to: [Video] DisplayWidth=1024 DisplayHeight=768 ColorDepth=16 Fullscreen=1 After starting a game and exiting Dark Avatar, it remains unchanged and still says 16 -bit color depth. Am I being deceived? I tried changing the resolution to 800x600 as well, which did have some effect but was unplayable due to improper scaling of some of the menus.
Just curious because I am playing this game on a crappy integrated intel card. I get a significant performance boost when using 16-bit color instead of 32-bit for most games. NO, i cannot upgrade this card, i am on a laptop.
Ok, I dont understand why there is an option to uncheck this. If having this option on automatically detects whether or not your hardware supports the new modes, then there is no reason to turn it off. It will turn itself off if it isnt supported, if I am understanding it correctly. P.S. my err says its using software mode.
Well, everything seems to work fine when its unchecked. Does than mean my chipset does support full hardware mode? If it didnt support full hardware mode, would I be experiencing crashes and massive slowdown?
What does this do? If I am using an integrated intel 915gm graphics chip in a laptop, would I benefit from having this on or off? This option and the enhanced ship texture option were introduced in 1.6 and the enhanced ship option gives me a significant drop in my frame rate. I don't notice a difference with the Vertex option, but I havent played a long or very large game yet.
